Any fellow devotees on here? What is going on with the supply? Can't buy it anywhere at the moment. Anyone have any recommendations for any (preferably) Belgian (preferably) Trappist alternatives that are available? There is serious disquiet at Kaht Towers at the moment.

It’s too strong for me, one glass is about all I can take, same with Duval. Prefer German beers if I’m honest always enjoyed Becks.

Orval is a nice sup, i don’t often see it anywhere but online if I don’t go to York though (to buy for home), a few places in Donny and Leeds sell it over the bar.

They had it in 1 litre bottles at Waitrose in Lichfield for about £3.

    Hope this helps.

PS A couple of years ago I worked in a pub and the small (300ml ?) bottles were an eye-watering £4.40.
PPS I love Belgian beers particularly the dark ones. On holiday in France after drinking endless awful Stella etc we found a bar with Grimbergen Abbey on draught.

Big fan of kwak or triple karmeliet. But they'll both knock your socks off. Chimay or duvel are ok too.

I thought Leffe was brewed under licence in the UK these days? I'm not a massive fan of Belgian beers as a rule, but you can't go far wrong with anything from Le Chouffe (thanks to @Terry Nutkins for putting me on to it!), and Duvel's Citra Tripel is worth a go if you want some hops.

Leffe isn’t a Trappist beer sadly. Some of these have already been mentioned but I would go in search of Rochefort, Westmalle, La Trappe and Kwak. Goudon Carolus as well. The latter is hard to find as is St.Bernardus but they’re some of the best.

Special mention for Tripel Karmeliet but it’s not as good as it used to be.

Orval is top of the tree but as rare as rocking horse s*** to get hold off. Try James Clay or Beer Merchants for all your Belgian beer needs

They had some in the Meanwood Waitrose last night, not that it’s much help like.

At the moment I’m very much enjoying Thornbridge and Saltaire brewery beers. Could be a nice alternative.

Got a great Kwak glass, with a wooden holder. Excellent middle class beer drinker gear.

If there's one thing I miss over here, it's having all of the above available at the pub!

Random story on that glass. Actually two.

    1) In some bars in Belgium you can only get your beer in that glass by giving them one of your shoes (so you don’t steal it)

    2) That glass came about, with the wooden holder, as a way for the drayman to hook it on the roof of his vehicle/carriage when delivering beer. Less spillages. More to drink as you were given a free one with every delivery

I’m here all week with more boring beer facts/stories

Was at Oulton Hall a couple of weeks ago, Staropramen on draft, really hoppy and smooth beer to take your time over.
