As you do on an evening as my stamina's blown from that nasty respiratory infection that I got in January which cant be Covid as it didnt exist in the UK until March... Still you cant rebuild it by sitting on your arse complaining. Anyway, I digress. It was like a ghost town barring the po-po looking to nick stragglers for an early return to the nick. Stopped to talk to a takeaway owner and a doorman. Said everyone started ******* off about nine - half nine raiding the EU superstores for ale to carry on the parties at home. The doorman said masks were a hazard. Especially with background noise. You couldnt clearly tell what people were saying and the context it was being said in and you struggled to be able to use facial expressions to resolve issues and potential conflicts. Also said it was a pointless exercise trying to police people wearing them to go to the pisser and back. General theme was if things dont start changing and pubs stop being an easy target his gaffer will be looking at shutting up shop. No furlough. So itll be 10 plus staff on the jam roll for Christmas.
It’s a well thought out and modelled policy this 10pm one. So well thought out that the government hadn’t even considered any impact on business or the possible unintended consequences. I expect this will come as no surprise to @locothetyke
Sounds like there was also hassle in London last night, because everyone was trying to get home at the same time...streets packed with people not wearing masks
Last couple of nights have probably seen my customers as close as they've ever been to each other while exiting. We've historically allowed very generous drinking up time, so people filtered out at their own pace between 11 and about 11.45. It's absolutely impossible to keep them apart when you're herding everybody out of the door for 10 sharp. It's certainly no safer - almost certainly more dangerous - and we're losing perhaps a fifth of our turnover. And that's a fifth of the 50% of normal that we're currently doing thanks to social distancing. It's almost like nobody in or close to government has ever worked in the service industry...
Theres no evidence from Sage or anyone else that Pubs are the issue. Its a very easy stick to beat folk with though. And it also shows the issue of governing by dictac and ramming everything through without any scrutiny or accountability. A half decent LOTO would have asked for the rational behind it and Boris would have been shafted. Done. Busted. The theory behind is that Belguim did it. What they didnt look at was that it had no effect.
Not wrong though am I? A legally trained MP who likes being forensic over things could have nailed Boris to the mast and essentially stopped half this weird and wonderful Covid guidelines in their tracks. Id be asking myself why he hasnt. Even Corbyn (pbuh) would have ruined the annoucement over the curfew and not broken sweat.
Eh? He isn't supporting Tories with this post. He's saying that if labour had a better leader right now they would crucify the Tories for these measures. He's criticising the labour leader for not exposing how bad the Tories are.
Just going through history, his posts rarely criticise Tories and are usually loaded against Labour. I believe it is a veiled Tory post. Sorry it I upset
Is it not Starmer’s plan to let Boris hang himself? Not a Starmer fan but to me it’s obvious what he is doing. Lest we forget most of the time this govt hasn’t a clue what it’s doing, so might be best to let them hang themselves.
