I think you get a better understanding of what Gerhard is trying to achieve at Barnsley. Obviously it’s slightly different because of the difference in the technical ability of the players - but it does give an insight into the risks etc of the pressing game.
Liverpool players get plenty of rest from pressing by being good on the ball and being able to keep possession. Doesn't matter what system you play, if you can't pass a ball and you can't shoot, you wont win many games. Was worrying during the promotion season when Conway (this was when we were winning games, so he was visible) seemed to suggest that Guardiola and Klopp both had the same style of play, just because they liked to press from the front.
We don’t play anything like Liverpool, different formation, they play with wide forwards in a 4-3-3 & they play with a high line & they regularly go long with balls into the channel for Salah & Mane. The only real similarity is that the managers come from a similar part of Europe
That’s our biggest problem ball retention . We give it away so cheaply and diabolically at times . We spend so much time and effort trying to win the ball then proceed to give it back at the first opportunity . Apart from our profligacy up front that’s our biggest concern. It’s the reason our defenders come under so much scrutiny and pressure . The times our wing backs pass straight to the opposition as though the ball should go straight through the opposition is unbelievable .
