Thanks all for sharing your stories.

Re. an earlier post, my great grandmother before her passing in 2002 told stories of a Zeppelin flying over Wombwell in WW1. She was adamant she saw it and I've no reason to question her. I can't imagine the state of perpetual anxiety people must feel living in wartime.

Do you want me to take you to my dad's house? Or would you prefer me to take you to my stepfather? Or my uncle? You think I'm lying? I will take you and show you them if you want to see cancer patients who have had their treatment and any cancer care halted. Because I'm the one who's lying here despite seeing the letters with my own eyes while you have heard that someone said that someone has had theirs continued meaning that nobody has had it cancelled.

    By the way

I didn’t say no one had had it cancelled.

it were on the otherside of broomhill as far as i know, between broomhill and wath main stack where the dearne runs,,we used to go on on our bikes when we were kids and i'm nearly sure they were still stacking coal on there for wath hump..The bypass that runs up to darfield went through an old runway(or so i was told) and the whole remaining area is covered in trees now.

    *Ahem*
It's there in black and white. You don't know what I get from spreading lies. I've been told numerous times they're lies. Would you like to visit my family and see for yourself whether or not I'm lying?

You know you come over even more of a liar when you use a partial quote

Personally I'd quit whilst you're behind.

You replied to me. You called me a liar for saying that cancer treatment has been cancelled. Would you like to see the patients? I can take you to visit my family.

The entire BBS can see that you replied to my statement of "our weakened NHS and inept government have cancelled cancer checkups and treatment because of covid" by calling me a liar. I have provided links proving my statement was factual and have named my family members who have had cancer treatment denied and you have repeated your claim that I am lying.

There were two raids on this area....I know it was seen over Whitworths Brewery in Wath, and another article I saw said it could be seen from Carton.

My grandmas house was the only house in the village (Skelmanthorpe) to be bombed in ww2 she was hiding under the dining room table when the firebomb came through the roof and landed on the bedroom floor she said they were searching for a target in Sheffield. Luckily they managed to put the fire out before too much damage was caused. The bomb shell is in a museum now and the bedroom still has some charred floor boards as we know the current owners who recently changed the carpets.

My grandmas brother was a gunman in a Lancaster and he had to bail when they were hit he ended up in a POW camp but thankfully survived the war. We have his POW postcard he sent to my grandma dated 25-1-44 IMG_7141.jpg

I was going to call your Gran a big fat liar - the V1 had a max range of 250 miles and that was later on when they were launched from Holland, so couldn't reach Sheffield, but apparently there were a number of air launched V1 attacks from the North Sea.

1 V1 landed on Beighton in Sheffield and 1 in Rossington near Doncaster.

My grandmother told a similar story and recalled how they as children had to run out of the house and lay in the field as it passed over monkbretton ...

Reverend Joseph Prince, of Silkstone witnessed a Zeppelin over his church on November 28 1916. “We were crouching in the vicarage garden and the Zepp was moving slowly and at a low altitude, and its two cars were quite visible to me. No words can express our sense of relief when the monster veered away. In the village the panic was universal and people sought shelter in the old disused day-holes and elsewhere.”

The Zeppelin, LZ61, was one of ten over northern England that night. The original target was Leeds but it was driven off by heavy anti-aircraft fire. It also dropped a bomb on Dodworth before moving onto Stoke. Passing over Lowestoft it was shot down by three BE2c fighters and crashed into the sea with no survivors.
