At the traditional Dutch club, the native of Styria made it into the professional squad via the U19s and subsequently via the second team. Marcel Ritzmaier celebrated his debut in the Eredivisie on September 23, 2012 in a 3-0 home win over Feyernoord Rotterdam. After several loan positions in the Dutch first division, the midfield motor finally landed at WAC in the summer of 2018. In Lavanttal he developed into an absolute top performer and leading player. In winter 2020 he switched to his ex-coach Gerhard Struber at FC Barnsley, for whom he has made 22 competitive appearances across all leagues.
