I guess the other danger of an overseas manager is shown by the 3 year contract handed out to Ritz and the ongoing contract that Bahre has.
British manager that understands the British game and fans we have been down the continental route, got the t shirt and it has failed
I tried to find that old interview about Flynn not liking us, but did find a BBS thread on it http://barnsleyfc.org.uk/threads/mike-flynn-dunt-like-us.218252/
Couldn't give a crap about where the next manager is from. Arguably, a continental manager possibly has more connections - but probably irrelevant if the board doesn't back them.
Not sure why not? Because we're little old Barnsley? Jurgen Klopp agreed to move his family when he joined Liverpool, why can't we? We can tell them we expect them to relocate with their family and if they're not prepared to do so then we move on. We have to start acting like we're a club worth managing (and playing for) rather than allowing players and managers to treat us as if we're fortunate to get them for a short time en-route to something better. And imo if that means they don't come then good, move on to someone else who actually wants to play for us.
Well then we need to back them in the way Klopp was, so they can stay here more than 10 months. It's very disruptive to kids schooling and I wouldn't move my kids at teenage age, although if like Chris Stern's they were prinary aged I would to give them chance with learning another language etc.
We do, I agree. And I accept it might be disruptive to the kids schooling but a) they can so no! and b) with respect it's not our problem. As long as we appoint continental managers who come on their own we should expect them to be relatively short term appointments.
