These tribunals are notorious for setting really low fees so I'm surprised if he's such a prospect no club took a punt in him.
We can only go off what we know. Tribunals don’t always set low fees, but looks like we haven’t paid more than what it would have cost in the Summer. I’m going to take a wild guess that the fee is lower but future fees are much higher. That would make a lot of sense
That's were the confusion lies I think. If he was offered a new contract then as a young player it goes to tribunal as we all know but both the barnsley chronicle and Milton keynes citizen websites stated he had been released in the summer because of financial problems due to covid only to be rehired later (when the season was confirmed as starting). It was based on that that I, and I reckon a few others, say he would have been free in the summer because a released player is free regardless of age. Mkdons website does however say that he was offered a new contract rather than being released in which case the tribunal fee would apply
Don't think that's how it works. Loads of young players let their contracts run down and leave yet it goes to tribunal. Your basically being compensated for training and developing them.
I'm quite happy with this - we've used this route before very successfully. Hopefully he's hungry to improve and up his game. Yiadom, Roberts, Mawson and Pinnock all came in from the lower and non leagues. Hopefully he proves half as good as those four. Welcome to Barnsley Callum.
You only get compo if you offer the contract. The player can ignore the contract offer and sign elsewhere, but no contract no compo.
Says who? Happens every season at every club. They down tools, they become a bad egg in dressing room, their agent talks to press and creates bad PR saying player is being forced to stay and talking to other clubs to sort a transfer out behind clubs back. It's why loads of clubs have agreed personal terms with players before they've even made an offer to club. You can keep refusing but why? Keep a striker who refuses to play and then leaves on a free, much better.
And MK said they did offer him a contract, he turned it down as wanted more money. So it's compo. Same thing happened when Jaden Sancho left city.
It happens every season at our club, according to certain people on here anyway. Even given everything you state above, it is still absolutely the case that the club decides. If the club holds the player’s registration, and he is under contract, he cannot leave unless he wants to pursue a different career. We definitely live in an era where the player has most of the power; but he doesn’t have it all.
22 year old talent born in Bedford. Can he cope With the delights of Barnsley? Need to learn the language
All depends on the player really. I remember Watkins handing in a transfer request when we sold everyone in 2017. It was rejected and he worked hard and knuckled down for the rest of the season. Granted, some players do get the monk on. Suppose it depends on the individual.
Out of curiosity , why should a fan have to have ambition ? whats wrong with going along & supporting your club with the intention of enjoying a match & not solely being about the result . I love watching the reds & its great when they win & it hurts when they lose but I love football & I love the reds ,but if we play in the premier or in the old 4th division it makes no difference to me , I will be there , simply because i enjoy it & I see no reason why I should shake my head or abandon my team & go & watch Frickley , the reds are my team & will always get my support .
You only get compensation if you offer them a new contract (and it can't be a poorer contract than they had before either) if you don't offer them a new one then you're saying you don't want them anymore and if you don't want them you can't demand money for them
Football is a sport. Shouldn't everyone involved with sport have the ambition of doing the best they possibly can?
Yes , certainly if you are playing ,but as a fan who is spending his cash then surely it should be about entertainment & enjoyment , if it is all about results it is then a different matter.
Isn't it more entertaining watching us win than watching us lose? If you are just as entertained regularly watching us lose then isn't it logical that you are just a fan of football rather than being a barnsley supporter?
He said it’s great when they win and hurts when they lose? The point they was making (as I read it), was they will support in any league, irrelevant of who owns the club and what their policy is.
I'd argue that if you support negative actions by the owners of a club you aren't supporting that club at all.
