...about Project Big Picture. I only know about it from a Yorkshire Post link picking it up. https://www.yorkshirepost.co.uk/spo...paul-conway-backs-project-big-picture-3000781 Fave quote is "the global football audience prefers to watch Liverpool play Bayern Munich than Liverpool play Burnley." Why, Paul, don't you and your billionnaire partners buy into Bayern Munich then instead of a club suspiciously similar to the one you've just publically denigrated?
What I love his him giving his opinion on what’s best for Barnsley when he no longer engages with our fanbase at all. Clearly just trying to prime some more money into the club to increase the value before selling on. Ps Paul Burnley fans don’t.
Is he wrong in what he’s saying though? Is it really denigrating Burnley to acknowledge that they’re a smaller club on a global level than Bayern Munich?
Him and the rest of the 80% mob shouldn't be speaking for our club until they've paid for it they also shouldn't be making decisions that affect its future. At the moment they are the business world equivalent of squatters. Pay up or shut up and ship out..
yeah they bang on about fans not being there and then put up an alternative that even if they could most wouldn’t be able to go to away games!
Absolutely pathetic that he refuses to acknowledge Barnsley supporters but can't keep his fat gob shut for anyone else
That's not the issue. The issue is, since he last was quoted personally speaking on BFC issues; -Our board are at loggerheads with pending legal action -His consortium stand accused of not paying what they owe to buy the club they own -His side of the deal threaten to move the club from Oakwell -We lose a manager -Fans lose much chance of getting the live admission their season tickets paid for But yet the first we hear from him is in relation to Premier League proposals and the 'global audience'. He's obviously accepted a journalists' approach on this issue but won't have done with any difficult questions relating to our club.
That's not the implication though is it? We all know that, but Conway is speaking in relation to value, and is implying that Burnley don't deserve to be competing at the same level as those clubs as their 'brand' isn't as marketable. And when he co-owns a club of a similar size, I think the fans of that club have a right to question what exactly he means.
The Athletic are a globally positioned sports publication - so his comments are to the exact question asked. And I think he’s right. He’s defending Burnley not slagging them off. He’s saying Burnley need to keep weekend domestic fixtures to maximise their revenue. If the big clubs have their own way, games against Burnley etc will be shoved into midweek to allow for more lucrative UEFA ties at the weekends. It’ll ruin the game. Now I know most Barnsley fans grumble when kick-offs are not a Saturday at 3pm. So I don’t know what the issue is - he is right.
i thought P Conway had disappeared from the face of the Earth cos he aint had much to say tothe Barnsley FC fans
"...if smaller Premier League clubs don't vote for Project Bigger Picture." In other words, Burnley should cede control and influence to the giants or they'll sulk and take their money and their 'product' elsewhere.
