Perhaps the biggest concern in this debacle is the use of Ractopamine in pigs. Concerns raised by the US drug administration that this may have a carcinogenic effect on humans have been totally ignored by the Trump administration.

Scandalous that they do it, scandalous that they continue to do it, scandalous that they get away With it, and the biggest scandal of all is their supporters will either defend them to the hilt or not even bother comment on it To condemn them or otherwise.

Any Penistone/Stocksbridge residents on here? Miriam Cates rejected the proposed amendment to enshrine food safety in law. I'm sure that's best for the area, right?

Living in Dodworth, she's my MP. But I voted Labour, so I can do my Pontius Pilate impersonation for any actions of her and her Government.

The standards of production, hygiene and welfare in industrial animal agriculture across the UK are scandalous as it is. Don't be fooled by Red Tractor or Happy Egg propaganda.

How strange. None of the 'many' Brexit voters of the BBS have chosen to add their thoughts to this thread.

They didn't get involved either when it became public knowledge that the Tories had given PPE contracts to their pals, rather than a long-standing PPE provider.

    How very strange.

I'll say it again - thick people shouldn't be allowed a vote. There should be some kind of test before you're able to choose the party that makes huge decisions that affect our lives.

Pardon my ignorance, but is Dodworth part of the Penistone and Silkstone constituency now?

Also I've never come across a Pontius Pilate impersonation :)

    What conspiracy?
In the Tory election manifesto they promised to maintain existing food and animal welfare standards - and also in various interviews senior ministers including the prime minister assured the public there was no question of them compromising on them.

They have now voted out an amendment enshrining that commitment in law - can you give me a good reason why they would do that if they had no intention of breaking it?

Its hardly a conspiracy - its an in your face finger to the electorate who believed them

And this is exactly the sort of thing that should immediately make a government liable to another election.

Its blatant disregard for what people voted for (no I didnt before you ask)

A manifesto, and government being elected should form a "contract", and as that contract is now broken, it should be put back to the people to vote again.

Any employee breaking terms of their contract are liable to the action immediately, not at the end of their 2 or 3 year contract

I said the same when Cameron got into power, he did something during his campaign along the lines of ten promises/commandments and said if I break them ill resign. I tried to find it years later when he had broken almost all of them and struggled to find a single media report on his promises. Handy that.

Can you not see the point that has been raised regarding Food Standards?

Did you read the quote in the manifesto?
