Well, it was what the government's own advisors recommended...

May have a less damaging impact on businesses, than the drawn out & possibly ineffectual one currently being implemented & would be simple to understand / enforce.

Needs to be an actual lockdown this time. Factories and warehouses closed. UBI for all. Hospitals open. Do the right thing you fuckers.

Boris now in a corner he can't say he's Mr Hindsight or sat on the fence. He's saying he'd follow the advice, and if these new measures fail then Boris has nowhere to hide.
It's been a long game, with the PPE and government procurement court cases mounting and the legal judgements over releasing government reports about preparedness and scientific findings the wagons are beginning to circle.
I don't like politicking when it's a matter of national crisis but Boris left them with no other choice. It's the only way you can expose charlatans.

A lockdown alone is no good we need to have PPE in care settings, adequate testing and a proper track and trace system which folk can trust and use. Throw into that benefits system which will support workers who contract it so they self isolate without fear of hunger or eviction.
Doubt they'd get those measures in place in 2/3 weeks.
But I agree that a lockdown is probably needed as a bare barrel scrapping minimum.

Thats all well and good but there are huge problems
    1. Boris wont go for it - too much pressure from his party
    2. If it was applied it will be ignored by too many. The first worked because almost the entire country supported it not so confident this time
    3. Even if it is applied and works why in 3 weeks time wont we begin the cycle again
The idea behind the lockdown was to give time to put other measures in place - something that our leaders have failed to do
so if we have a lockdown for 2 weeks later this month - in November I am really not sure how much further forward we will be

because all the previous lockdowns have worked.

Just kicking that can down the road and leaving a trail of misery behind it.

    Its all SAGE know.

The Government is obsessed with it.

Remember the last "three week lockdown" it ended in September. . .

Though I think they have to do more, I think this govt have completely shot their bolt in terms of any form of public trust.

I can't see any decent solution. We've wasted huge amounts of money for nothing, lost huge amounts of jobs for nothing and tens of thousands of people have died... for nothing.

A sad and very accurate analysis of the situation. When the whole story gets out dating back to pandemic exercises and planning and how the government knowingly removed our preparedness, then maybe the penny will drop with those who can't see the sheer level of incompetence and negligence.

And what would be different in 2 to 3 weeks? Would we not just be kicking the can down the road deeper into winter?

Isn't the keep locking down circuit breaker argument totally flawed.
    groundhog day scenario every month
more people will die by doing this over a longer period of time
this is universally accepted isn't it.
is the virus going to disappear in two to three weeks, no.
Vaccine in two to three weeks there may never be a vaccine
if we ever get a vaccine it will work if we are lucky on 50 % of people,

can any business survive doing this on off lockdown ,no.
giving company's or people money is not going to stop them going out of business or people losing there jobs.
its frankly ludicrous to think its as simple as that.

I've not done the calculations, but I suspect my business would be better off on something like a 'three weeks on one week off' basis than it is now, and that was something suggested a while back. I wonder whether that would have an effect.

A ‘circuit break’ isn’t even a real thing surely? It’s a concept based on not much more than a headline friendly name. Last time It took 3 months to temporarily suppress infections to a point where we still weren’t even 100% sure were low enough. 2 weeks will do nothing?

It's all about the NHS. And rightly so given the state it could find itself in over winter.

Oh, and tax the billionaires the selfish c@nts.

I suppose Labour calling for it should ensure it doesn't happen.

It should be if done properly as theoretically the virus will "burn out" in a lot of infected people without being passed on. I'd prefer trying it to an indeterminate period of the wishy washy ill-conceived stuff we've got now.

I presume it's simply to buy the NHS more time whilst Trace and Trace etc are sorted (Yes, I know).

It's really interesting this though, as now it's the opposition that's 'following the science' and the government are doing the opposite despite claiming that's their aim.

Can't say I agree with it mind, but then again I haven't a clue what I'd do. I just know what I wouldn't so. A handy position.
