Crazy. My mate could only get 9 days off work so that was his reasoning. For me just doing the 24 miles on the last day was too far in one day to be enjoyable. I think more than 20 miles a day becomes too attritional
We're not at war, we're living on planet earth where viruses evolved at the same time as DNA, where our time on this planet is finite and short, where we will die, where the cause of death for 99.999% of us will be something other than Covid-19. You're right that this government couldn't control this. Nothing can. But this government are attempting to control us, not the virus, and that is where the fight will be.
So there are no performance clauses or penalties for missing targets in the contracts awarded to Seco and Sitel The reason apparantly is because such clauses are unenforceable. This is a bit of a surprise to most people involved in contract negotiations The sales negotiators at Serco Sitel etc must wake up thinking its Christmas every time they have to negotiate with our leaders
The next question should be whether, in the absence of such clauses, the government will be suing for damages arising from breach of contract for failing to deliver. And if not, why not?
You are absolutely right. A good friend of mine, the late great Scottish miners leader and dedicated democrat Mick McGahey told me some years ago that ''democracy is very precious, so precious it ought to be rationed.'' Almost heralding our time of keyboard critics demanding their own individual democracy. Seemingly forgetful that our freedom was won by our many Grandads who gave their lives in muddy trenches in 1914-1918. And the Mams and Dads who endured six years of sacrifice while being bombed and knowing that but for the RAF, they would have been overrun by a brutal enemy in 1939-45! The people that bred and gave us our backbones. So for God's sake, or for their sake, please stop moaning and criticising and unify for it is now time to show we have backbones! The time to battle together for far less time. From the comfort of our fitted carpets and colour televisions?
Back in my day my paper round was in a war zone, I used to have to defuse bombs and run across minefields and still managed to deliver Mr Brown'a copy of Razzle. Is that the kind of whataboutery nonsense you're trying to quote or make a point about?
You're right, I'll stop holding the government to account and smile and wave a flag instead like a good little bootlicker.
That’s quite the precedent the government is on the verge of setting. A government statement not usable in a court room of course, but will be interesting the knock-on effect that has in future negotiations.
