Following on from @Darfield138 's rather interesting post about his watch collection, I was wondering what other stuff on here people collect. I'm assuming music and football memorabilia will be a common theme. Indeed I have enough vinyl to fill a shed. However, I reckon some people must collect some slightly more off the wall stuff. I'll start - I collect chess sets, with a particular interest in Soviet sets which were used in important tournaments. I have a couple that are worth several hundred quid, including a very rare 1940's one which I picked up for a fiver on the Russian equivalent of eBay (I'm not going to post photos and get people to guess which one is worth the most unless somebody happens to be really interested, which I severely doubt!). They take up quite a lot of space, which pisses my missus off no end. I just tell her to be grateful that I can now DJ off MP3.
Wow. I like chess but only own a couple of cheaper sets and bizarrely an early computerised Kasparov branded game from the early nineties that refuses to die. I lost all my Northern soul records in a flood at my dad's. By sheer chance I'd leant out a couple of LP s, the only records I now own. One is the Jam signed by foxton and buckler besides their heads, not got Weller though. The other is the specials, one of the first 500 with a bit missing out of the "C".
I collect old computers and consoles. Currently have around 20, ranging from a Spectrum 16k to a playstation 4.
Coffee mugs with football club badges on them. Have them on display along the top of my kitchen wall cupboards. Funnily enough not many females are too impressed
Left Book Club books. I’m missing 3 including the wonderfully titled ‘When Smut Goes’. Got a signed Orwell Road to Wigan Pier that cost me more then my first car.
Brewdog cans, currently got between 20 and 30 sat on my shelf, tops taken off. Rather sad when they did the new can design.
Collect chess sets(and boards) too, currently have around 120 of them, virtually all are stored in attic out way of children though, majority of mine are just run off the mill sets with no special reason behind except I didn’t have one. My two pride are an Italian hand crafted one made in marble and a solid pewter and hand painted set with table and storage drawers of the Indian Raj campaign, bought that in 1990 for £944.
Not really owd pal I have got No1(birds) to No58 (golf) most are 1st editions but the art of collecting is to find them your self at antique fairs etc.
