Starmer has been speaking in support of Andy earlier on. I'm sure he will have plenty to say at Prime Ministers questions tomorrow. It's a regional issue with Andy Burnham taking the lead I'm not sure what Starmer jumping in would do?
Because this is the news of the day with Burnham going it alone. My opinion is the full support from Starmer on site would have given a more powerful message.
who gives a **** about PMQs. He needs to get his arse in the media supporting the north nor abstaining.
Should he be in Liverpool after that then Lancashire? Up to Scotland? Midlands? We have local Mayors and Councillors to take a lead in their area and Keir and MPs to support and make the case in Parliament. Andy Burnham has done a fantastic job of sticking up for Greater Manchester and highlighting how unfair and dangerous these restrictions without a proper finance package are. https://www.manchestereveningnews.c...ter-news/sir-keir-starmer-backs-andy-19119508
I very much agree with this. The moment Starmer adds his voice, especially if its immediately after, the right wing press and Johnson will use it to suggest its political. If we're going to get rid of this hugely damaging dangerous bunch of charlatans, it will require a coming together and more voices than just one.
Kier starmer is a coward. So are all the other MPs who are sitting on their arses keeping quiet because it's not them yet. Tory, labour, lib Dems, ANY party. They should be standing up and saying no you racist homophobe this isn't acceptable. But they won't because they're happy taking their £80k
Exactly whatever your political thoughts this comes down to compassion and humanity. Andy Burnham happens to be Labour and his position comes I'm sure from those values but anybody looking in should be alarmed at what is going on not just in Manchester and across the north. He was right when he said it's not just a fight for Greater Manchester but everybody who may come under these restrictions and left without the finances to survive.
What do you want him to do? He is up against an 80 majority after December so he can stamp his feet all he wants we have 4 years of this. Posts like this are a bit silly and show you either don't understand the position he is in or want Labour to be still seen as a protest party and unelectable as a result.
Burnham or Nandy would have given the Labour party more cohesion and appeal as leader than Starmer ever will, a party that just doesn't learn, the London set regard the rest of Great Britain as just some land they own.
I guess he will abstain he does on everything else. Shame that Burnham isn’t leader. Someone with passion and commitment not a wet lettuce
Starmer has sent numerous messages through social media in support of Burnham the last just 2 hrs ago and he's made a couple of speeches, as well as his commons questions. Shadow ministers are also getting lots of opportunity to have a voice and become visible. I understand the want for some blood on the carpet and some booming rhetoric, but his position is one of weakness having such a deficit in the commons. Starmer is solid, but not stellar. But give him time and some support, and he might just make progress. With no valid Lib Dem option and no structure for Greens to rise swiftly, Labour is literally the only option at this time.
