I believe if it got to the point where there is a standoff, the police would just report you and let the courts decide rather than going round in circles about the semantics of it all.
No. The police can ask you about your exemption and should they decide you are taking the piss issue a fixed penalty notice. If you are genuine with your exemption as per the government guidelines you contest the FPN in court and itll get thrown out as the issuing officer would be called as a witness. The same would have to then provide evidence to how he made the decision you were not exempt. If it gets that far.
I happen to work at this venue, The Soho Music Institute and I can guarantee you that this is completely untrue and false information. We were neither raided nor shut down, but stories like this tripe adds to the reason that we were unusually quiet again. What actually happened if anybody saw 2 Night Marshals entering, was that they came in to use our toilet, they wore a mask, adhered to social distancing and left when they’d done. Since our reopening on July 4th, we have adhered to EVERY single rule we have been instructed to by the government and more, we’ve had social distancing measurements in place, introduced table service, masks, you name it. We have been absolutely strangled by this joke they call a government into enforced closure as it isn’t viable to stay open, losing our hard-working staff and owners such valuable money. So at a time of such hurt & sadness for all in the hospitality industry, please remember to check your information before posting something on a social media channel just because your mate has told you something or you’ve heard something on the grapevine, it’s spiteful rumours like these which tarnish already struggling businesses.
I don't remember the incident as I was knocked unconscious. My phone, wallet (and fk*cing Pizza, the b*st*ards) were stolen. The doctor who eventually treated me believed a large blunt object was used. I was hit round the back of the head and in the face. The most obvious injury was my nose was smashed and bones were protruding out of my face (and I remained in that condition for months until an operation to chisel the bones away), but X-Rays I eventually had revealed my cheekbones and jaw were also fractured. I emailed the friend I'd been out with that night when I got home (phone stolen) and the next day my ex-wife turned up, who he'd contacted, and she insisted I went to the police station. As you can imagine, I didn't look good. The police refused to file a report, or even enquire on my well being. My ex just couldn't believe it, "Look at him, he clearly should be dead!" Apparently the protocol is to ring to report a crime. "I'm right here, stood in front of you!" "You have to report a crime by telephone, sir" "I don't have a phone, it was stolen." "You can report the crime online" So we left, I completed the online form and pressed submit. "Please enter a valid phone number. Any information submitted you know to be incorrect could result in your prosecution." So I gave up. They just didn't want to know and really didn't care. A month or two later I got a call from the Police that some of my bank cards had been handed in. I guess whoever took the wallet ditched the cards. It was put to me that I'd lost the cards. I went up there to pick them up and informed them that no, I hadn't lost the cards, I'd been mugged, that these bones sticking out of my face were from that mugging, and those cards were taken that night. She just shrugged.
I hate this story. So horrible and upsetting each time I hear it. I've been lucky enough to have limited but generally good interactions with the police, and one of my best friends is a detective and she's one of the best people I know. But it's sad how often you hear of these bad experiences from good people who I trust.
That’s absolutely horrendous Jay, from my experience of the police they look for the ‘easy wins’ and this was probably too much like hard work for them.
This is awful, and another nail in the coffin as far as the Police go, not fit for purpose said it for years, been useless anytime we’ve needed them if they turn up at all. Don’t imagine it’s been easy getting over something like that Jay.
For the first three days after I was terrified. But I decided it wasn't going to define me and it wasn't going to ruin my life. I waited until it got dark, then, with my heart beating out of my chest, I walked around the streets of Barnsley until my heart rate slowed and I stopped panicking. Then I went home and went to sleep and it didn't affect me any more. I had a constant reminder of it for a few months as I had an open wound on my face where bone protruded but after the operation that was gone too. Until asked about it in this thread I hadn't thought about it for months and now it feels like it happened to someone else.
I’m sorry that happened to you Jay, must have been a double whammy wen the police showed no interest, what happens when they whack the next bloke and kill him. Plenty of easy targets about for the mugging scum. Glad it hasnt had any lasting effect.
‘Tis laughable isn’t it. TBF the usual culprit hasn’t intervened, but I suppose that’s because no ones mentioned forriners
Sorry to hear what happened to you, did you get an incident number for the attack? If so I'd strongly recommend speaking with both your MP and the crime commissioner. A violent assault and robbery should always be investigated. An violent assault which leads to serious injury is a priority job, those that perpetrate such acts usually escalate violence the more they reoffend.
