after watching last few games, and also watching one or two matches in this league this year Our play and football is as good as most if not better than a lot of teams This last match with James in and the new lads getting better each match, I can see us moving up the table soon We have played top teams and not being overwhelmed With the exception of two or three teams I think we can hold our own Just need to solve the goal problem and start putting them away Cheers
With Matty James and Herbie Kane added to our young squad if we now had a Big Striker to partner Cauley we would have a top 6 team. We should pay more than usual as a one off for a free agent striker still out there.
I can’t get my head around people suggesting such players. Way too high a wages, massively wrong attitude, and not the kind of player to bring on anyone else. Plus, we lose what’s best about our game having someone like this lead the press
It’s because he’s a name people have heard of. That’s literally it. I’m convinced most of the people suggesting people like Gestede have only ever seen him play against Barnsley and perhaps once on the TV four years ago.
Found Danijel Subotic on the second page. Left Grasshoppers in the summer. These clips may be old so at 31 he may no longer be the same player and it looks like some of the opposition doesn't look great but I'd love some of his qualities in the squad!
Like the idea but I suppose we have a wage structure in place. So a signing on fee to get one in may be the order of the day.
I agree in regards to attitude etc if that is indeed true but Its getting to the stage where I couldn't give a $hit about the gegenpresser! Our forward play is seriously horrible to watch and has been so ineffective for a long time now, how long do you stick to the same system if you blatantly don't have the players for it? Whilst I appreciate the 'press' and when it's done well it can be a formidable tactic I sometimes wish I could just watch a team with a paddy McCourt or an Adam hammill in it. A Marlon harewood type player would be a great acquisition.
I still don't think we're short of a striker. It's the supply chain. O.k say we sign a big lad that brings others into play you still have to take those chances. I'd rather get back to basics and get balls in the box and see where we go from there.
I don’t want to challenge any of that, because it’s all fair, but Adam Hammill was fine with the press because he worked his knackers off. As did Harewood. The suggestion of someone like Gestede is a million miles from those kind of players. Like Jamie mentions, I don’t think people have seen him play more than three or four times. We’ve scored three goals in two games after relaxing the ‘press’ rules. We also don’t really have a head coach until tomorrow, so I’m going with letting Valerian figure out how to get our players more consistent going forward than asking us to sign overpaid mercenaries who shouldn’t ever wear a Barnsley shirt (in my opinion)
I agree partially, if we put a striker into this team and continue to play the same way I doubt we would see much difference. It's not like we're creating chance after chance is it! But a striker is still needed regardless in my opinion.
Looked at that yesterday. Baloteli. ? That Franck Ohandza guy pops em in for fun. But at 29 and not all that familiar of the standard he’s played at. I Wouldn’t know if he could cut it. There’s a 7 minute video on him, scored some reight crackers.
