Could have been Mowatt or Styles for me, went with Mowatt for his work rate and that absolute thunderb*stard
Had to go with Mowatt. He pulled the strings today. But I thought Brittain, Styles, James, Frieser and Chaplin were all excellent.
Mowatt for me , criticised his form and decision making in the past (but never his work rate) but last two games imo he’s been reborn .
Mowatt will win it and in all honesty he was probably equal to my motm at the very least but I’ve gone Helik, solid, calm in the middle of the three. They had a lot of ball, the penetrated out wide and got balls into the box, but never had a clear chance (ok, maybe the Cleverley one was a good chance...). I have to credit the centre halves and for me he was the pick of the three, Solly didn’t do much wrong either, Andersen was a bit jittery at times but again didn’t concede too many clear opportunities; Helik I thought looked like a proper defender. It feels great to win without really playing well; we couldn’t retain the ball up top at all, didn’t really create much but we got in front and then saw the game out. Marvellous really.
Mowatt. Good solid performance capped with a great goal that won us the 3 points. Styles a close 2nd.
That right wing was open day for their attacks. Don’t know what his orders were. But it seemed he was down that side. Drifting too far in to the middle. Maybe because of the formation. But that is where most of the danger laid.
After the game yesterday I was certain that Styles was my MOTM. For the second game running asked to change position at half time and he did so with so little effort it was difficult to see that he had actually changed position. However, after watching the extended highlights this morning it is now apparent how much work Mowatt actually did in the centre yesterday, above and beyond his magnificent match winning goal. Some could argue that the goal itself would claim the MOTM So, sorry Callum I've got to give it to Captain Marvel
I was so impressed with our three centre backs and captain yesterday. But I've gone with Styles. He isn't really a wing back, but he was comfortable and classy on both sides, as well as a threat going forward.
Hardest one to choose this season, collectively I thought it was a solid display. Gone for Mowatt, he's got his mojo back, and that goal was insane.
