    An amusing little rant. Congratulations.
By the way, whom do you believe is to blame for this lockdown?

But what I'm confused about is that on Saturday night valance and shitty were on BBC one telling us that the virus is currently spreading much faster than their worst case scenario. How is that possible when the worst case scenario they showed us all was a doubling of infections every 7 days yet the figures quite simply do not show a doubling of infections every 7 days, in fact as you've just shown the figure for this Monday is around a thousand lower than it was last Monday.

Yesterday's figures were just 200 higher than last Sunday, Saturdays were around 1300 higher than the week before, Fridays were 3000 higher.

Their reasonable worst case scenario was a doubling of infections every 7 days. The figures released show an increase on average but a small increase that is nowhere near doubling and yet live on TV they said the current infection rate is much worse than the worst case scenario which is simply not true.

I know this is a serious thread and I agree with how you’ve described this playing out but I had to laugh (out loud) at the use of the word “ shat”

I think lockdown will be extended, with the country to blame ... and then at the 11th hour (22nd/23rd December ish) we will see Boris zip-sliding across the Thames in a Santa suit announcing a 3 day amnesty from curfew with a message “Stay at home, be with family, don’t go to work”. National hero. This will end at 5am for Next Boxing Day Sale. #savetheeconomy

The U.K. government, who have legislated themselves into totalitarian power, thus rendering all other influences impotent. Who do you think is to blame?

Vaccine planned to be rolled out to NHS frontline staff 1st December subject to regulatory approval . A bit of hope.

Do you want to be one of those guinea pigs? Would that be hope for you? If you worked in that environment? They won't be able to make you take it, but they will be able to prevent you working if you don't.

I am not an anti-vaxxer. I abhor that stance. This is about using basic intelligence. There's a reason that vaccines take years to be approved. You cannot know the long term health implications of a substance you inject into your veins unless your study is long term. You're an intelligent man, you must realise this is wrong on every single level. The hippocratic oath: First do no harm. Come on man, please, step up, please.

The hope is in general terms of it moving in the right direction (perhaps naive assumption on my part that it will be safe if passes regulatory approval) but I understand and to a large degree agree with what you say. My wife won’t be having it for those reasons. I don’t think that’s right in terms of not allowing people to work if they don’t accept the vaccine, the thought has crossed my mind, but I don’t think it’s right. What do you base it on?

I don’t think the government has covered itself in glory with this but I don’t think any UK government would have. This is quite a novel occurrence for our generation.
Who do I blame? The virus of course. Nasty little f**ker. But it’s also important to consider the the why and where this originated.

I base it on how policies have been implemented so far and the ideology of our current government, guided by Scientists I do not give a single second of credence to. I believe in mathematics and science, I'm a project manager who builds these for a living:

My life, from the minute I wake to the minute I sleep is plotting charts and making predictions on mega-data on our country's looked after children. Guided by respected professionals in the field, but also adding innovation on a daily basis, I change the way people think. There hasn't been one chart or prediction that has come from the two people who flank boris Johnson in his press conferences that is even remotely credible. It is just nonsense.

Until the government are honest with you, that this virus is with us forever and that we may never develop a safe vaccine with a reasonable efficacy, which they know but won't share, then don't believe anything else, it's all based on a lie. Why will they mass medicate our population with a vaccine based on the rhetoric that we're going to beat this, that it's a battle that we can win? Because they've convinced everyone this is the situation we're in, that a vaccine gives us 'hope', and ultimately they'll be re-elected. There's no conspiracy, it's just the same old values there have always been, they're looking after themselves.

Thanks, that’s an interesting perspective, and got me thinking.

The virus is undoubtedly here to stay. A vaccine will not be about eradication but protecting the more vulnerable groups of society and not overwhelming the NHS, much in the same way the flu vaccine works, I would have thought, but I’m no expert. I’m not being flippant here but - the charts shown by Whitty and co that you refer to - aren’t they just tracking death rates, hospital admissions and so on and are therefore (reasonably) factually accurate? Or do you mean their predictions transposed over / stemming from that data, are nonsense?

They haven't started from scratch though have they. The vaccines they are working on are based on work already done for SARS and MERS.

There are no vaccines for SARS and MERS, there are no vaccines for any coronavirus.

I didn't say there was. A lot of research was done though and then the funding was pulled.

I hope we develop a vaccine. However, right now, we don't have one. We also don't know if we are capable of developing one. I believe Covid-19 is the eighth virus from the Coronavirus family that infects humans. About half of those are very mild, symptoms like the common cold, the other half (Sars, Mers, Covid) are much more serious. Particularly, in the case of Covid-19, serious to older people or those with underlying health conditions. We have yet to develop a vaccine for any Coronavirus. We don't know how to do it. The government have convinced the population that a vaccine is forthcoming and every policy implemented is taking this into account. It's a fantasy. The reality is that we don't have a vaccine. Any policy based on a fantasy is hurting people. I'm not saying we won't develop a vaccine, but we may not, and to implement a strategy based on something that doesn't exist is just lunacy. You base your policies on reality. If something comes along to help, you change your policies to the new reality.

With regard to the charts produced by Whitty et al, there was no computer modelling. None. They simply drew a straight line from the current infection/death rates to infinity and pedalled that as a prediction. If they'd done that the day before or the day after it would have produced an entirely different result. There was no science involved whatsoever. What they have been saying is not scientific, it is not repeatable, it is not peer reviewed, it is just the opinion of a scientist and that is not science. It is simply propaganda. I also think it's unlawful and that they will face prosecution in years to come.

A lot of research was done, and that research continued, but no safe vaccine was developed.

Stop living in fantasy, live in reality. We don't have a vaccine and there may never be one. The only thing to do under these circumstances is to live like there isn't one, because there isn't one. Believing in fairies doesn't help.
