I agree v watford he put zero effort in and it was like having 10 men with him on. Tonight... wow, I'd start vic or Miller before him and immnot a fan of either of them. If we paid 1million for schmidt it's the worse but in bfc history.

I don’t think Schmidt or frieser are even decent league 1 striker level, maybe harsh on frieser only due to the fact he’s not had much time but it’s not looking promising

Got to say, he's putting on an absolute masterclass in 'running about a bit'. Possibly the best I've seen in a red shirt since Headless.

The shot chaplin had and it fell to schmidt keeper out of goal plenty of time just try loop it into the net pat... blasts it at a defender.

Gets the ball on the edge of the box hold the ball up wait for Barnsley players to join the attack patrick... back heel straight to a blue shirt possession given away cardiff go on the attack.

I get he scored some important goals last season and given the chance he can finish but his overall game leaves alot to be desired not just based on tonight or saturday but from his time here. I can remember reds fans saying sam winnalls overall game was poor, but jesus he couldnt lace Sam's boots, He needs to improve a hell of alot and asap.

Schmidt needs games - but can’t play in this system.

He needs service in the 6-yarder. Give him that, and he might do ok.

He’s not going to do much outside of that. He’s young and needs to improve.

Maybe the Championship is just beyond his level - but there is decent a striker there. You could see perhaps in L1, with the right service, he could knock 15+ in.

Schmidt has been scoring in U21 international games. He knows where the back of the net is. He just needs coaching on his runs, hold up play, decision making and so on. Agreed though, all strikers were disappointing tonight (this morning).

If Schmidt is going to offer so little in open play then he has to perform well in what he's supposed to be good at. You can't be as anonymous as he is and miss all those chances against QPR. Otherwise, what are you for?

He shouldn't have survived 10 further seconds on the field after that back heel.

I think Schmidt would fit in at a club that can get away with flicks going astray. He'd be ok at a high end Championship club and score goals. At a club that has to grind out results he is too expensive. Cardiff's second goal was a result of his stupid dive. Just hold it up.

Against other u21 teams. Unfortunately you don’t find many championship teams under that age. Other than us that is.

He is 21 and knows where the onion bag is. I admit he was poor last night, and should have had 2 or 3 v QPR. I couldn't help thinking last night I would love to see him playing up top feeding of Keiffers scraps. For us, obviously.

Yet you compare him to Winnall. Very similar players. If Schmidt had got up and chased the referee after the penalty dive he would have looked just like Winnall.

I just don't get this suggestion he's an unbelievable finisher. He's got the same number of goals as Adeboyejo (granted at different levels). And he's missed a number of great opportunities. Schmidt is approaching 40 appearances (most of them as sub) and has 4 goals.

If it was a case that we get the ball to him and he manufactures a chance or a cute finish, great, I can forgive his complete lack of anything else. But he doesn't.

If we have to put the ball on a plate for him in the 6 yard box, with a northerly wind and an empty net, well I'd fancy Adeboyejo, Chaplin, Frieser and Miller would all improve their goal stats too in the same position.

He's still young, but I'm not seeing any improvement from Schmidt at all, nor the extra effort to try. He doesn't close down, doesn't battle defenders, can't hold it up, doesn't drop deep to link, doesn't run channels, doesn't have clever runs, doesn't create chances for himself, I couldn't tell you if he has a shot on him as I've never seen him shoot from any sort of distance. So we're left with the only possibility that he might be a poacher.... if you put it on a plate for him. Last night he had a plate. QPR, he had more plates than he could carry and he registered 0 goals.

Some of his finishes haven't been dreadful, but I'd say Chaplin has shown more proficiency for having a cool head at the time of shooting and has much more to his game if used properly.

I hope Schmidt shows something soon, because if not, we're going to register a massive loss on him with 4 years of wages and what we're led to believe was a transfer fee exceeding £1m.

If Schmidt is so **** why was he involved in most of our key moments last night?

We were utterly dreadful throughout most of the game. The key moments I recall of Schmidt was he fell over in hope for a non penalty, he had a cross put on his head which he wasnt strong enough to manufacture a solid enough header and it fell directly to him and he snatched at it after Chaplins effort.

If i've forgotten any others, do remind me. But if they were key moments, he was utterly abject in making them count. But then I don't think anyone managed a score of over 5 out of 10 last night. Whereas many players performed below their levels shown in other games, thats pretty much what we've seen from Schmidt in all of his outings.

It just makes me laugh when people say he doesn't put himself about when he does. He just doesn't do it very well. It was his back heel which led to a Cardiff City attack. It was him peeling off out right that allowed Andersen to find him with a long diagonal. He just cut the ball back to a Cardiff City player. My point is he must be doing something right to get into these areas.

But he doesn't out himself about to any great effect. One of the biggest issues I have is he'll often hide, closing himself off from receiving passes, or he'll run at a player to close down, then in the last 10 yards ease back to give them an easy out so the pressure is released.

We've had him over a year with 3 coaches who all play a form of press and expect movement from a forward player, either on a counter or when pressing.

If we take his two starts against Watford and Cardiff, his best bits wouldn't make the grimmest of showreels.

Its a real shame as he seems a nice lad.
