We all laughed when China actually barricaded people in their homes

There doesn't seem to as much shock when we're doing it to people in this country.

Very worrying that those in charge are doing that here and nobody bats an eyelid

There was a lot of shock, protests and press coverage Leading to them being taken down in Manchester last night? What more than that would you suggest?

Unclear what the ones in your photograph are fencing in, wouldn’t be surprised if it was a construction site given your record

It's so unclear what the picture shows and yet you've just explained where it is and what the response by the people fenced in was. What a bizarre response.

ST, if you don't know where this is, don't know what the picture shows, and what anyones response was, why is it very worrying? Why the sensationalist post?
It's a bloke putting up an unknown fence in an unknown location for an unknown purpose.

    What's the problem with that?

Where did I say I don't know? It's Manchester uni where they've put up barriers to contain the students within their halls and prevent them from leaving their homes.

DusThaNoIII knew exactly what the images were of as he looked at them and described the students response, their location and that they had been ripped down. He then said he didn't know what the image was which was the weirdest post I've seen for a long time.

Excuse me have you seen my dog?
Is it white with black ears? A jack Russell? Goes by the name of Fido and ran past here 2 minutes ago?
    Yes
    No I haven't seen it

Teacup and storm. I think dusthano was answering your concerns by explaining that the barriers have now been taken down, but that you didn't explain anywhere in your post what your picture was of. I too read it and sort of assumed it was to do with the Manchester students but possibly it was somewhere else.
Anyhow I'm sure your concerns have been addressed, as far from not batting an eyelid, the students tore them down, the uni apologised and they won't be going back up.
Put up with the best of intention but the worst of thought.
By the way, when did the Chinese barricade people inside their homes?
There's a billion Chinese and that's an awful lot of fencing

It was at the beginning around February time. They didn't barricade everyone in but if you were infected or lived in an infected area they did. They quite literally forcefully kidnapped people on the streets and welded up doors to apartment blocks (video evidence exists) to contain people

No-one bats an eyelid... people have just woken up and it is literally the most read article on BBC right now . Can you not discuss something, anything without going OTT? It is a valid discussion point, no problem with that.

Shouldnt be a problem hardware stores are allowed to be open so you can just nip to B&Q or screwfix

On a serious note Supertyke does make a valid point - the difference between us and china is that there was sufficient protest to get them taken down again. but if they keep doing it people not directly affected get fatigued and then they start to get away with it. The fact that it was even tried is a great concern
As for me is the fact that we are no longer allowed to leave the country. - just think about that you cannot legally leave the country, even if you are not planning to return for months if thats not a step towards a totalitarian state I dont know what is

I never saw it until this morning and I've had the news on a lot, so I'm guessing others haven't either.

Like I say it is a valid discussion but when you keep posting with your OTT statements (e.g. "selfishly calling for people to lose their jobs" from the other day... when challenged was clear not the case anyone had said that at all) you lose credibility.

I'll be honest, it makes me not want to take whatever you say seriously. Not trying to start an argument, just saying there's a lot of validity in what you're talking about just doesn't need the exagerration :)

Just had a search for that and indeed it appears it did actually happen, shocking behaviour, but I don't think it's comparable with putting up a fence to better control entrance and exit points during a pandemic, which has now been taken down with apologies from the university.
What nobody is batting an eyelid at is the Chinese treatment of the muslim Uighur population
“Over a million Turkic Uighurs are detained in concentration camps, prisons, and forced labor factories in China. Detainees are subject to military-style discipline, thought transformation, and forced confessions. They are abused, tortured, raped, and even killed. Survivors report being subjected to electrocution, waterboarding, repeated beatings, stress positions, and injections of unknown substances.”
The behaviour of "those in charge" in each country cannot be compared
