Being discussed on CNN. “Biden win good news for the special relationship .....with Ireland. Not so good for Britain. “

Biden not a fan of Brexit and thinks we've made a big mistake leaving the EU.

Well, it seems to be an acknowledgement that Ireland will feature highly in the approach to Europe from this administration; consequently anything that threatens the Good Friday agreement will not be looked upon favorably nor will anything that threatens that agreement. Not great news for the Westminster Govt.

That approach seems to be based on the value being placed on international agreements. A similar approach seems likely to be taken in relation to the Paris Agreement which Biden will attempt to re-instate as part of USA policy to Climate Change.

As a slight aside Trump's staff appear to have put him on the golf course at the moment. So he can't make a concession speech - not that I'm sure he will!

The "SpecialRelationship" is a figment of the collective imaginations of british politicians and journalists. The only country the USA has a special relationship with is the USA. Remember "Yo, Blair!"?

He’s right. I’m not sure it will make much difference to our prospects of a trade deal though.

America looks out for America, no matter who’s in charge.

Got to tolerate Trump for another seventy four days before Biden is inaugurated, unless of course the proposed
Court action threatened by Trump comes up with some bizarre last minute twist. The bloke does not have an ounce of
humility and you can bet your last fiver, he's not going to go without a fight. He's released a tweet in the last hour
still claiming that he has " won" the election.

He's stated times many that he doesn't do losing, so he definitely doesn't want the ignominy of being included in
a short list of former Presidents who failed to win a second term in office. Whatever happens, we must sincerely hope
that so much hatred is stirred up by the Trump camp that his supporters don't resort to the use of widespread violence
leading to unnecessary loss of human life.

Cheers Helen. I omitted the very important word " don't". Contrary to what the Donald probably
thinks, given his power, privelidge and undoubted wealth, even he is not above the law.

Nobody knows how things will pan out with Biden. He was a great supporter of UK in Falklands conflict when other "Irish americans" like UN ambassador Kirkpatrick wasn't. Any rational US politician would not like Brexit from a selfish sense, they've lost their spy in the camp. As for a special relationship, they are our biggest trading partner, a strategic military ally and, as the wikileaks thing showed, have an intelligence relationship unparalleled anywhere else. We are the junior partner doubtless, but a partner nonetheless. Us politicians are supreme pragmatists (usually) and at the end of the day, who offers more to the US. The UK or, france, Ireland, Germany or the impermiable body politic that is the EU ? Biden might make some noise in public but let's see what happens.

I imagine bozo will be on the blower to barnier first thing tomorrow. We're on the brink of double dip recession, covid is going nowhere and his alliance with trump is f.cuked. He needs to get a deal sorted
