Sorry to sound like a miserable old git - but I think we can do without the birthday "shout outs" during the commentary. It's not professional.
People would have otherwise have had a shout out at Oakwell but obviously they can't have that now. If it's a significant birthday like 80 or for a kid who will be watching at home then it's nice for them to still get to feel special on their day. It might be an idea to do them before kick off (they don't have much time at half time) but it's not that big of a deal unless there's loads.
You don’t just sound like a miserable old git... You’ve got folk cooped up, some living on their own with nowhere to go, people struggling mentally, physically and financially. Kids not seeing family and friends and not knowing how to deal with their emotions. And you’re against them having a happy birthday read out to put a smile on their faces? Ok flower. We won today by the way.
I am not sure if all those struggling people you mentioned had their birthdays today. So how do you get your birthday read out? Presumably somebody requests it on Twitter. I suggest Matty and Callum get their noses out of their phones and watch the game, When we have spectators people can ask for birthday wishes to be read out at half time. How would you feel if they were read out during the match when there was a lull in play - oh someone's down injured so let's give a shout out for Fred Hobblesmith of Smithies who's 85 today. What sort of flower am I by the way? Who won?
Chuff me......and breathe.....sounds like this lock down is getting to some folk already..... Wheres the harm in reading out messages ....when I was living in portugal 13 years ago it was a regular thing to call matt and try and get a message read out...during the game and I wasn't the only one....infact when I set up the Barnsley Foreign legion with Dave potty Arnold bless his soul all the lads and lasses would call in....from all the corners of the world Reading messages out during the game makes it more personal and gives you a good feeling.... So long may it continue....
When you wrote this response did you honestly think it put a better argument across for what you’re shouting against? I’m not compelled to use language which might be deemed abusive so I’ll just say I very much struggle to understand how anybody could have such a blinkered, selfish and nasty attitude.
It must be quite cold up there on your high horse. My argument is simple: During match commentary on IFollow there should not be a place for birthday wishes and "shout outs". It detracts from the main purpose of the commentary which is the game of football. Best wishes to all who had their birthday yesterday.
Disagree- this is our Ifollow feed with our fans giving the commentary. Think it connects with the fans more and makes it more personal.
Don’t sound like a miserable old git to me I’ve known hundreds of them and probably am one myself at times . No you sound like a typical Tory to me with your attitude not just on this thread or subject . Most people on this thread and in the community in general have a sense of comradeship you don’t come across as that you sound bitter and twisted tbh .
Maybe that's the problem with the commentary. It's often more interesting when you hear the commentary from another source. Radio Sheffield is annoying mainly because it is the radio commentary and keeps cutting to other games. There is no option on IFollow to cut out the commentary without turning the sound off. If there was I would do it.
Matt has been doing the job superbly for decades and will continue to conduct his live commentary in whatever fashion he feels is suitable.
