To be converted into a Starbucks Drive Thru. A small Domino’s ‘hub’ will also be added to the car park. Quite pleased something is being done with the building so soon after Frankie & Benny’s left - I expected it to be empty for a long time. Coffee shops must really be doing well! They’re opening everywhere!
Yeah bit weird, considering there's a McDonald's across the road and a Costa about 2 mins away. How much drive through coffee does a half mile stretch of road need?
It's the same as how many McDonalds does one place need. If the new one gets the go ahead that's 6!!!
As I understand it the new one is near Dearne Valley Farm. Is that right? Because if I'm making the 5 minute drive from Cortonwood to Tankersley, I can't imagine ever thinking, "I wish there were a nearer McDonald's!"
I suppose the 1000 new houses planned for Hoyland, plus all the warehouses going up there, kinda justifies it for McDonalds. Tankersley will still get a lot of passing trade even when that one is built.
Haha, you might do The council will be saying that there's far too much obesity in the town shortly like they do each year but yet they give the go ahead to something that causes it
In regards all the new McDs etc. They are popping up more to cover delivery services to local villages and towns than actually drive-thru etc. Just Eat and Deliveroo are stacked out doing it (especially through lock-down) and the trend is expected to stay. It just means that they have to build more to service the demand.
Good. I park there when I go to the post office. I now can get mi sen a cuppa coffee when I get back tut car. BUT ....... Costa in Dunhelm car park is going to open this month - so probably be spending time there as well. Spend most of mi life flitting from cafe to cafe. Well ....... I used to.
As a Resident of Stairfoot, and quite close to the Roundabout, I’m glad it’s going to be occupied again. Unlike the adjacent land where my old local pub The Black Bull was situated. However, how many coffee outlets and pizza places can be sustained in a short area of land. The new Costa drive thru at the side of Tesco’s petrol station, McDonalds, Greggs. Wish something could be done with old B&Q unit
I wish it was still a burger King. How have we not got a burger King in Barnsley? And before anyone mentions it im not counting the one at wooley edge services.
Burger King really is hit and miss. It’s not the same price or quality at each place. McDonald’s at least has a level o of consistency...
I think there are more than 2000 homes to be built around Hoyland... They’re building on the field next to the bypass. They’re knocking down the cricket/sports ground at Rockingham for houses, (one of the oldest in the area). They are also building on the fields bounded by the motorway and the road going to chapel town.. they’ll have McDonald’s and coffee, but no doctors /dentists/schools...
Sainsbury’s are still paying the lease on that and were bound to a lengthy term when they took it on. They’ve been trying to sub-let for years and can’t find anyone to occupy the building - even with the potential to split into multiple units.
Sainsbury's are being a bit too lazy for me. Instead of trying to rent it out with the potential to split it into multiple units they should have split it into multiple units and tried renting it to individual businesses
The figure probably is higher than 1000, however, I was under the impression that the majority of the new homes would be going on the Hoyland South Site, where I believe a new primary school is also planned, and is where the sports ground is being relocated. There are some planned for Hoyland North off Hawshaw Lane (Avant already have plans for 100 units, with a phase 2 planned when they’re gone). There’s a small pocket of land reserved for housing near the farm off Tankersley lane, but that isn’t huge, the majority of Hoyland West (off the new bypass and facing the M1) is warehousing and where the hugely controversial Hermes site will be.
I have a plan for it but I need a big Lottery win first. I would have a massive entertainment centre for families run on a not for profit basis. All inclusive Indoor and outdoor play area with food and drink bars. Other entertainments as well A nice separate Diner/ Bar for adults only to open after 7pm. Oh I could go on. All affordable with a registration type scheme so unruly behaviour could be banned. Now to buy a lottery ticket
