Way worse than someone with nearly 89m followers tweeting racist bile constantly? Twitter can do what they like. When you sign up, you agree to their terms of service. If you go against these, they can ban you. It banned Katie Hopkins and David Vance. Trump will be soon.
I’m just saying I don’t think it will happen. That’s all. There’s far worse things living and breathing in the Twitter-verse than what comes from Trump’s account. That’s my only point, and yet nobody seems to be even attempting to acknowledge that. It’s a completely toxic environment that needs cleaning up.
He's obviously not saying the worst things anyone has ever said on twitter, but in terms of the toxic combination of harmfulness and influence it's difficult to think of anyone even close.
But isn’t that only the case because he’s saying things that you ultimately disagree with and doesn’t follow your own opinions? Some of his tweets have been rightly censored because they’ve been positioned as facts when they’re not. But others are just opinions. Just because slightly over half of the country disagree, and a half that are likely more engaged with social media than the other, doesn’t mean censorship is right. I’ve already asked where does it start and where does it end. I’m only saying that I don’t think he’ll be banned and that censorship in its current guise is wrong. I’m not supporting any of his comments (before the labels start appearing and I’m criticised as a Trump Chump).
He's just tweeted a load of niggling fouls over the years I've heard. None are straight reds mind, he just stays the right side of being banned from it.
That's just untrue - and you really know it is. People are banned from Twitter every hour of every day, so we all know it's nonsense to suggest that only Trump is being censored.
Twitter's Ts & Cs are quite straightforward (like here) no one wants to have Trump banned for posting stuff they disagree with, but inciting violence is definitely something people should be and are banned for. I can laugh at his ridiculous political lies, I can squirm at his utter ignorance - but when he suggests people take up arms against his political enemies - that's surely a step too far.
No, it's because he's making unproven accusations which undermine the democratic process and will likely cause civil unrest, seemingly in an attempt to cling to power against the will of the people. If you don't think that's wrong then I really don't know what to say. If he wants to challenge the election results there are appropriate methods and channels, which do not include making sweeping accusations via twitter...
It isn’t untrue. Loads of people go through their days not being banned from Twitter as well. You see some of the abhorrent things said and that person’s account isn’t blocked. It only tends to happen if you focus your energy on someone ‘famous’ or in the political sphere
I mean what you’ve attached are just opinions are they not? Who chooses to censor that opinion? I’m not agreeing or disagreeing, but where does censorship start and end? Because Twitter is run by those of a liberal/democratic persuasion he gets censored. If it wasn’t run by that persuasion then it doesn’t get censored. Surely you can see what I mean on this? The censorship only supports his ‘movement’ (there isn’t really a movement to be honest) and doesn’t help overall
Sorry Loko we’ll have to agree to disagree; people are banned from Twitter daily for inciting or threatening violence. Trump has done this but currently enjoys protection as a world leader. Are you honestly content that he should be allowed to continue to promote violence when he’s left office?
Sorry mate. But are you ignoring the part of my response where I said some of his tweets are rightly censored? I’m not saying he’s an angel at all. I’m just saying there’s a really difficult line here in terms of total censorship when there’s thousands of thousands of people say worse things, and also our own media and politicians spread their own lies too.
I don’t think I’ve been clear (or you’re conflating my opinion with others). I don’t care about the lies, I don’t want him censored because I disagree with him. I can have fun laughing at trolls all day. I just believe that inciting violence is clearly a reason to ban someone. And that’s the same rule whether they’re a left wing nutter, right wing nutter, religious nutter etc. Inciting or threatening violence should not be condoned.
No, the statements about Pennsylvania and Nevada are stated as facts. He's not getting censored anyway, just a health warning on the tweets which I'd hope you agree is fair enough. He's acting like a despot trying to cling to power in a failing state (that actually might not be too far off the mark thinking about it). If Biden had lost and was making the same tweets I'd have the same opinion. Other people might get away with stuff, but that's a crap argument for giving him a free pass on stuff like this - they're not the President of America.
I believe in the integrity of the fair election process so, yes all votes should be counted provided that they are; A) Cast within the specified legal timeframe B) Cast by individuals with a legal entitlement to vote in that State/Country C) Not duplicates (i.e. only one vote per person) D) Not cast illegally by people under the specified voting age in that State/Country E) Not cast by dead people or family pets Will that do you mi owd?
100% agree on the violence thing. Won’t find me defending that at all. But the only examples I’ve seen so far aren’t violence related so I can only really respond to that.
There’s a fair few tweets that are over the line of inciting violence in my opinion. The “LIBERATE MICHIGAN” tweet is the one that immediately comes to mind. Perhaps it could be claimed that it’s just on the “not far enough” side of the line, but imo that’s enough for Twitter to remove the tweet and ban the perpetrator. Worth remembering that a ban from Twitter in no way undermines free speech. They’re a private company and they have no obligation to allow anybody to use the platform.
I'm anti-censorship. However I think there's a balance to be had. Twitter is a private social media platform. They have Ts & Cs which everyone signs up to. While I support freedom of speech, I also personally believe they have a moral obligation to police things such as hate speech, propaganda, incitement etc. I tend to find it's the ones who are doing just that, who play the censorship/free speech card. Twitter aren't telling Donald Trump what he is and isn't allowed to say. They're saying there are things they won't tolerate him saying on their platform. If he doesn't like it, quite frankly, f.cuk him. Is that massively different to this very forum? There's a set of rules we all sign up to, and there's a set of things that aren't allowed. People have been banned from here, because they broke those rules. "When the looting starts the shooting starts". I would have banned him for that alone.
