he shouldn’t be vilified for that, I think its more of a generation thing than a racial one,

Racist abuse shouldn't be tolerated in this day and age. The only surprise is that it's taken so long. Resigned not sacked is the only shock here

A training course would have sufficed. There doesn't seem to be any malice, just clumsiness over outdated language.

He made a few further gaffes eg about girls/women becoming goalkeepers & the “life views” of Asian players as well. I think it was telling that he was preparing to step down anyway.
He really shouldn’t make such gaffes or comments ( presuming they actually were gaffes) in such an elevated position- he really should have known & done a lot better!

Massive overreaction for me, all the ***** going off in the world loses his job because of something like that.
His generation was taught that was an acceptable term and he’s explained the USA thing.
What the hell happened to reprimands, retraining etc, there are a lot of professionally offended types making comments that would be appalled if they lost their job for something similar.

Ah, I wasn't aware there was a pattern of unacceptable behaviour, I would have given him the benefit of the doubt for one potentially innocent slip.

I’ve been watching CNN of late due to the election and they’ve used the word “coloured” on a regular basis, it’s not a word I’d use but I also don’t view it as racist if I hear it used,

Direct from the article, It's full of racist innuendos.

Three years ago - in front of the same parliamentary committee, Greg Clarke was criticised for referring to institutional racism as "fluff". He apologised after being chastised by MPs and reminded that language matters.

It appears the message did not get through.

Amazing isn't it? We have a blonde haired buffoon in trying to run the country with his Bessie, the same Buffon who calls Muslim women letterboxes, other minorities picanninies, yet people voted him in as prime minister.

Now answer this. Which one of these two is the worst????????

    I think I know...

Even if it were just that, it's not like he's just a guy down the pub. I fully accept that some people find it difficult to keep up with the latest list of things not to say, but first of all those people aren't suitable to be Chairman of the FA.

Secondly, it's not like it's a recent thing - I remember a black guy in my class at school talking about how much he hated the term in about 1997. If you (very charitably) suggest that Greg Clarke wasn't aware of this until, say, three years after I was, then that would have put him in his early 40s. I'm not a million miles off that myself, and I can 100% guarantee that if I learn tomorrow that a term I've grown up with is offensive to a significant portion of society then I won't be casually dropping it into conversation in twenty years' time, let alone using it in front of a select committee. And I'm not, nor probably ever will be, in charge of one of the most influential bodies in the country.

I can’t disagree with any of that mate, I also think he’s working in an environment where racism is at the forefront which makes it even more of a gaffe but I also think it wasn’t bad enough for him to lose his job over,

Maybe, maybe not if it's a slip of the tongue and a one off. But it isn't - he's been like this consistently. So no question that A. He doesn't learn from his mistakes, even when they are pointed out to him and B. He doesn't care - so that makes him a racist.

I take the point about him being "a child of his times". But doesn't that suggest he's not the man for today?

To be fair mate I haven’t heard his other gaffes so I could be totally wrong and I’ll quite happily hold my hands hope if so.

He also apparently said being gay is a ‘life choice ‘ and women don’t like being in goal because they don’t like being hurt by the ball being kicked at them , that’s according to the Chair of the Committee he was talking to .....

    From a Guardian article:
I'm not saying that any of that is grounds to necessarily call him racist, sexist or homophobic. But at best they're the comments of a man who is willfully out of touch, and patently unsuitable to be in charge given the challenges that are facing the sport at the moment..

My. Bad, I didn’t really read it, I just read that he’d used the word coloured
