I'm genuinely astonished at the whole situation. IMO, this is an ex-President essentially attempting to stage a coup. He's willingly and deliberately undermining the entire US democratic institution. He's going full scorched-earth now, and doesn't give a f.cuk.

What's worse is he seems to have around 70 million loyal disciples ready to blindly follow him. It's insane. This is someone who's been born into pure entitlement. He's never been told no. He's never lost. He's never been stopped doing what he wants. This is really at the heart of my anger at Trump supporters (note I said Trump supporters, not Republicans). I can only conclude they're either too stupid to see what's in front of their eyes, or they just don't care.

I've been following interviews with his niece, Mary Trump, over the past few weeks and months. She's been calling him out for a long time, and has so far very accurately predicted how he would respond to losing the election. She considers him "the world's most dangerous man"...and I don't think she's far wrong. For me, he's right up there with Kim, Putin and Xi.

Given the American penchant for guns and Presidential assassinations, I'm genuinely surprised no one has ever tried to take him out.

Every single action he carries out seems to fall into the category of; what would Putin want me to do?
He's raised money to benefit his own pocket, he's doing things which undermine the constitution and the country's standing. All in the name of patriotism, you're only a patriot if you follow his lead. Utterly bizarre.

We have the same movement here; if you don’t believe we can be successful post Brexit you don’t love your country.

Of course this isn’t helped by the fact that most liberal intellectuals believe patriotism in any form to be nonsense.

But what ought to be obvious is that whilst as a nation we’re quite capable, that’s not a good reason to believe we can still succeed whilst hamstrung by a petty and corrupt government

Well, I didn't know that and I'm somewhat surprised. Can you let me have your evidence/source for the comment?

I’m guessing you meant to quote me?
I only have anecdotal evidence; my entire lefty psyche was formed in the 80’s where a commonly repeated phrase was ‘Patriotism is the last resort of the scoundrel’.

But you only have to read through Brexit threads on here to find loads of lefties* ridiculing the idea that it’s daft to be proud of somewhere you simply happen to have been born.

*im firmly in the lefty camp and in my 20’s and 30’s felt exactly the same, but having relaxed into old age I can feel proud of where I’m from whilst accepting that it’s not a privilege of my making.

    Cheers. No problem.

Wasn't sure whether it was fact or opinion. Just conscious that we all have opinions on here but one of the issues is that some posters bring with them their own 'facts' - which causes something of a problem - a la Trump.

If anyone is wondering who votes for Trump, I would definitely recommend watching this!

Problem sharing videos like this with the claim that it’s even slightly representative of the 71 million who voted Republican, is that we’re all the first to complain when the TV crews rush to Barnsley or Yorkshire for expert political opinion and tend to always pick someone who couldn’t string two words together and then claims Brexit will stop Muslims taking all our jobs

It's a comedy clip from a comedy show. It's not CNN. It's no different to Jonathan Pie. If people watch something like this and take it that literally, that's on them.

This is the one he did on the UK election.

What Marc said really. Find it hard to believe there aren't millions of Trump supporters like them though. Trump fans, not Republicans.

The thing is the people you’re referencing were Bush fans. Romney fans. Etc.

The whole ‘Trump Fan base’ thing is basically not even real but it helps to stir up that association with the rednecks and the gunslingers.

I know what you're saying but they're all over social media, parroting exactly the same stuff he comes out with. It is for all to see.

And if it wasn’t him it would be someone else and the message would likely be different, but overall basically the same.

The Trump fan base, if we have to call it that, comes from those in the middle ground. Which is what I was calling before the election. Those who just don’t buy in to Democratic policies. Saying that though, there wasn’t enough of them to win him the election - although the claims keep continuing to grow the vote number.

If history repeats itself and we have the same groups of people repeating their leader's every word I will be the first to apologise but I can't recall anything like this having happened in my lifetime.

Surely though it’s access to seeing it that increases year by year as oppose to just the ‘support’? I feel like we see and hear so much more now than even four years ago. That’s why conspiracy theories spread so easily and so much info needs to be fact checked. Look at the spins we get in to on here where one comment becomes fact within minutes just because of how quickly and easily things can move.

I did make it mate thank you. Staring at the ocean as we speak.

    Yeah I guess so.

Ah that's great news! Bet you're relieved! I can remember trying to get home from China in the middle of the SARS crisis in 2003. That was stressful enough without any changing of flights or having to go via other countries.

Trump's twitter is equally worrying and funny, it's basically this:

If you supported Trump after what he’s done/said in the last 4 years, and still continues to do, you should take a long hard look at yourself.
