Have they incorporated solar panels into th design. ? Genuine question. Edit found this 16 Sep 2020 — The Glass Works development in Barnsley town centre is part of a major ... home to around 180 rooftop photo-voltaic cells, similar to solar panels, ...
A suspect when the lighting is added to the face of it it will look superb........a think people need to go to Leeds and Sheffield and see the vast metallic buildings on display there........
I suspect you're right. Lit up at night it will look good, it's just during the day it looks ugly. The question is can/will they do something to make it look better during the day when it's finished. Fortunately the Cineworld signage looks quite big so that should help the side facing the bus station
That's a bit disappointing then because doesn't that mean it won't say Cineworld on the side of the building just the front and back?
There is a little works road currently at the side of the cinema - that would be perfect for taxi's to use if it's still a road when complete. It saves going all round town if your heading Ponefract Road way. Edit: Of course, the bridge might get in the way.
The bridge comes down the side of it, probably why there's no signs on the left side of the building.
Good thinking batman. In my head I had the bridge ending somewhere near the very back of the building, I didn't think of it going down the side of it
So if I'm looking at that right it doesn't come down the side of the building? In that case why did they have to add stairs to the design of the bridge so that it would be short enough to fit instead of just extending a bit? I know there must be a reason obviously
Unsure what you mean exactly. The bridge is not attached to the actual building, but does run alongside it. Im not an engineer so unable to comment on the design, however, extending the bridge further up Kendray Street would impede on the entrances and outdoor seating areas to the restaurants underneath Super Bowl. Kendray Street will be fully pedestrianised from the new library to the interchange. N.B The signage on these CGI’s isn’t correct.
Yes I know it's not attached. I'd originally assumed the bridge stopped near the back of the building somewhere but then I got confused and thought it carried on down the side of it and ended in line with the front of the building. I see from those images that it's a little of both. Seems to extend to the side of Cineworld a little but not much. I'd also not really thought too much about where it lines up with Superbowl on the opposite side but I see what you mean. And that Cineworld signage looks much better than the plans they've recently submitted.
Any illuminated signage near a railway could impact the operation of the railway. Unsure if that’s why the actual signage is being moved to the top of the building and limited to the smaller signs on that particular elevation. It could be one of the reasons why though.
From memory just about every other shopping mall/complex I’ve seen in the country is covered in signage of the shops inside so I’d be amazed if ours wasn’t the same
To be honest, I think the 60’s 70’s had an interesting look. They are a period in architectural history that won’t last much past my lifetime. Shame really, it was at its time innovative and futuristic. The new stuff is very boring, and generally not built to last. I’m not sure why they insist on wooden facades to many new builds. They look tired and in need of repair within 5 years....
It’s all about opinions, but 60s and 70s architecture were in need of demolition within 5 years, in mine.
