The gentleman who played the Last Post prior to kick off did so superbly, effortlessly and beautifully. Well done, sir. You did yourself, the club and, most importantly, the fallen proud.
A bit silly, I know, but I stood up for it alone in my study, hand on heart (The USA touch). One has to try, even when no one is watching.
He did indeed, I don't mind admitting I had a little tear at that point. Lest we forget, we will always remember
I Missed the start lil. was it the guy who’s done it the last few yrs.? Worsbro bloke I think. Been a feature over the years played with such emotion behind it. Or so it seems. A true highlight.
It was John Hopkinson from Pilley , he has done it at Oakwell for the last 4 or 5 years , his first time I believe was against Blackburn Rovers in the championship , once again he had the hairs on my arms stood up , he is superb & whats more he is a smashing bloke , well done John
One of the best things I've done in my time at the club. In October of 2016 I was tasked with finding someone to play the Last Post. We wanted someone local, someone with an affinity for the club and someone new. After a bit of research, we found John. He was honoured to have been asked. He's a very busy man at this time of the year and has played across Europe at a variety of Remembrance events. But has always said yes. And turned other paid work down. And turned down payment from us. It wasn't the same today, without the crowd, without the full ceremony. But he still wanted to be a part of it and as per usual, his playing was impeccable. I've never heard the Last Post played any better. I'm not just saying that. While ever he wants to and while ever I'm here, John will always be here for this special day in the calendar. Good to know supporters appreciate the great man too.
Nice words buddy , I know John personally & I know that he appreciates the fans appreciation of his efforts . He lives near me & we played cricket at Rockingham cc at the same time & have found the guy to be a total gentleman but when I praise his playing its because I genuinely believe I have never heard anyone play the last post better , he also plays at our local cenotaph on remembrance Sunday , top man our John.
i live alone but stood to attention, head bowed. manners and respect costs nothing but mean the world
