Martin Bullocks goal v Leicester went in that same top corner too, but from a straighter angle. But he did slightly slice across it meaning it swerved away from the keeper.

Things go in cycles. Maybe we're due a sustained run higher up the Championship and who knows where that will lead us?

Thommo, if only for the fact that he never received enough credit for being part of that squad.

Styles is destined for big things, I think.

Honourable mention: Hume v Derby. Half volley, perfect birthday present. And yes, I remember it vividly 12 years later ;)

Probably only in my mind but Macca’s header against Brighton in the Cup hit the back of the net with the same velocity as both the afore mentioned shots.

Once so Eric Winstanley score a bullet header think it was against Watford but could be wrong and can't remember the year "what a goal" he scored 3 that day.

The one that always gives me goosebumps every time I see it (along with the commentary too), is Nicky Eaden vs Sheffield Utd. Its one of those season defining goals.

I've voted Tommo above though. Absolute thunderbastard.

Neil Thompson v Stoke for me, it's still the sweetest strike of a ball I've ever seen live, and it hitting the stanchion just added to it.

Another favourite of mine, from one of my heroes Steve Cooper, was a goal I haven't seen other than in the ground on the day, not sure if anyone remembers it? Easter Monday 1989, v Sunderland at home, Cooper had been brought on as a substitute, hadn't been on the pitch long and picked a ball up near the centre circle and from about 35 yards out hit a beautiful chip over Tony Norman and it just clipped the crossbar on its way down and into the net. For someone more renowned for great headers, it was a truly wonderful goal.

Ian Banks , numerous strikes but one in a cup game , think it was against Cardiff cushions from West Stand seats being chucked on pitch because they had equalised in extra time , then Banger smashed a free kick in top corner from 100 yards ( that’s how I remember it probably a tap in )

I remember that one. Roy Ironside hoofed the ball into the centre-circle and was ambling back into his goal when the ball whistled past his right ear and into the net. Rioch took it first time on the volley from all of fifty yards. A classic from Bruce .....and also from Roy. Memorable for both, but for different reasons. Pity there is no video record of it.

Oh, and Frank Sharp versus Mansfield Town. Brilliant right-foot first-time volley in an abysmal game. Everyone had lost interest in the game, as it was so poor (end of season, nothing in it for either side) and I spent the next ten minutes describing the goal to a growing queue of folks, as hardly anyone was watching the game, apart from me. I seem to recall I was just about the only one who shouted when Frank scored and i can remember everyone turning round and looking at me as if to say, 'what just happened,' so i had to tell them. No video recording, sadly. Good player, Frank.

Voted for Thompson but I'd have to prefer Winnall v Walsall for the sheer explosion in the crowd as it went in.
