Why did you think it acceptable to say that a woman being sexually harassed should take it as a compliment?

I don’t think the city is the point in question here. We’re talking about misogynistic behaviour which we thought to be in the past. I think it’s very worrying to have your daughter stalked in this way. I worry about my granddaughter in the same way. You feel like you wish you could have been there for her, but you can’t. All you can do is let her know that she’s loved and supported.

    Agree to a large extent.
I throw things on here for discussion - because that’s what I thought this message board was all about.
But it isn’t anymore is it ?

    If I see something I don’t agree with - I describe WHY I don’t agree with it.
I know I keep saying this and I’ll keep saying it - play the ball, not the man.

I'm not sure about an Irish/British imbalance on this DT I haven't researched it. I've lived here four years and haven't noticed much difference. I did work in a blue collar role for 8 years in the UK and found a culture of sexual innuendo aimed at the female workers that was distasteful even though most of those perpetrating it would have denied and probably not intended any psychological harm.
My partner worked in the UK for five or six years in the past and found just as much harassment over there as there was here.
She's just pulled up a stat showing a rise of harassment in the UK going up by a third in recent years. I don't really want to get into a debate about whether things are better or worse in Ireland. I know for a fact there are problems in both countries and any occurrence of it is unacceptable.

Calling you out is not trolling. A proper example of trolling would be posting something wildly insensitive in response to someone's family member being harassed just to get bites.

But only a tw*t would do that.

    Absolutely.

However, from my friend, I am led to believe they are further behind the UK in regards to tackling this issue. Like I say, I don’t know why though.

cheers RT. I'm hoping that when lockdown ends she'll be able to interact with fellow students more and generate a group of friends to insulate herself more from it and also feel more secure with.

The sexual harassment of anyone and women in particular is totally unacceptable period.
We had a Police Officer come to our Youth Club to talk to our young girls when I was
involved in Youth Work. He gave a short course in basic self defence which our girls
found to be very helpful and advised them to carry a good quality attack alarm/ torch if they
    were out alone at night.

In addition to personal harassment , another very scary experience that some girls can face
is unwanted anonymous telephone calls. As well as being frightened to go anywhere because
they think they are being watched, it can affect their sleep patterns and mental health which is
    most concerning.

Best advice I ever heard to deal with such instances is to involve the Police and ask BT/ Virgin etc
to screen every incoming call plus have an Acme thunderer referees whistle near the phone.
If the " heavy breather" does get through, give two or three loud blasts of the whistle down the
    phone. They'll soon hang up.

What was the extent of the harassment ?
    Was it - wolf whistles.
Or was it much worse than that?
I was under the impression it was sort of wolf whistle stuff - which some (most?) women wouldn’t like - but brush it off.
But it wasn’t - Churton then explained later it was much worse.
But did you ask me why I initially said she should take it as a compliment and ignore them.
    No you didn’t.
So as such - f*** off yer ***** person.
    :)

Well said Mr JLWBiglil. I’ve always been a believer in the words of Blue Mink.

“What we need is a great big melting pot. Big enough to take the world and all its got. And keep it stirring for a hundred years or more and turn out coffee coloured people by the score.”

I’m not a cook or a manufacturer of kitchenware but I can see a few practical difficulties in this idea though.

Yer need to be telling that to the Irish - not me.
They generally do NOT like the British especially the English. And that’s putting it mildly.

I’d heard about it - but I then me and my brother had first hand experience of it - and so did one my elderly relatives.

Oh I agree - it’s still an issue over here still sadly.

I only made the reference to Dublin as you mentioned it, and I have quite a lot of friends over in Ireland whom I talk to quite often.

Harassment report figures going up are hopefully an indication of that more are confident and brave enough in reporting it, and that correct action will be taken. I can imagine many got or get ignored or buried to the bottom of a paperwork pile so the true figure has always been somewhat higher than what it actually is.

Funnily enough, I was treat with respect and friendliness everywhere I went by the Irish. The same in Scotland, Wales, France, etc.

Why do you have to hijack sensitive threads such as this and turn it into stuff about you? Don't mind so much on footy threads but you're bang out of order on this.

If you treat people with respect and dignity then you will receive it back.

Treat people the way you wish you be treated and you won't go far wrong in life

So you're recognising that you did post something insensitive to get bites? Because if you didn't then I didn't call you anything...

I'm still waiting for the defamation proceedings to come through my letter box regarding your use of racist language by the way.

The amount of sexual harassment I have faced is crazy, both physical in varying degrees and verbal. Luckily, now I am older it is rarer but from the age of 15 to a few years ago it was very, very frequent. Maybe I should have stopped wearing the clothes I wore on nights out but I refused to be made to change for someone else. I have gone home early on many nights out as the number of men coming over to me and grabbing me made the night out completely intolerable. In high heels I am 6ft and I have an hourglass shape so that attracted all the reprobates when I wore clothes that suited my figure. I’m very glad I’m plain to look at otherwise though, a lass I worked with at a sports shop was properly beautiful and she was constantly stalked by weirdos at work and everywhere she went.

Same here. I've been fortunate to visit nearly 40 countries and not once have I, or my wife been subjected to any abuse or hostility. I must just have been lucky.

    i haven’t.
I add to the thread and it just disintegrates into personal attacks.
    There is a trend.
Just take note of what’s happening.
