In my 11 years+ quest for a comprehensive BFC statistical database, I'm currently looking to complete the section on penalties missed (bfc not the opposition). The main focus is on the period from 1996 to 2011. If you fancy helping out and can remember any at all - from any era, please drop your memories in here with as much detail as possible (taker, season, home/away, opposition), no matter how obvious they may seem - and I'll endeavour to get them verified and added. There's a good chance I've already got most of them noted down but short of going through every home programme for 15 years and reading the previous game's report, this seems like the best option for now. TIA @bfcstats
Jamal Campbell-Ryce at home vs Forest in, I think, 2008/09 popped into my head first for some reason. Would've put us 2 up, then Earnshaw equalised and it finished 1-1. I think we might also have missed one vs Norwich at home the same season, finished 0-0. Might've been Macken taking it, not sure.
Just remembered JCR missing another one in 2008/09, last minute at Brammall Lane, but thankfully would've only been a consolation as we were 2-0 down - although Bogdanovic scored the next minute so who knows...
Redfearn v Palace at home in the 96/97 season Chettle v palace in 00/01 - think that hit the corner flag Nardiello v Swindon 05/06
Bit later than the dates mentioned but Davies at home v Birmingham (I think). sure he missed it on purpose
That one of JCR's. Didn't he have an argument with Andranik Teymourian about who should take it? Andranik won the penalty and wanted to take it, JCR wouldn't give him the ball, and Andranik walked off in a strop. And just before JCR stepped up to take it, Andranik went over and kissed him. We always called it the kiss of death. JCR missed the penalty.
Yeah I thought the same at the time, looked like he missed deliberately as he wanted out. Didn't seem to have the best attitude. Reckon it was late 2012..? Around the time Flicker came in, maybe just before
Didn't Ashley Ward score a penalty miss a penalty and get sent off all in the same game? Sunderland away?
I remember that. The lad was on loan from Fulham and looked a very good player. I suppose JCR pulled rank because he was one of our players. Arguments over who is going to take a spot kick rarely end well.
Craig Davies v Birmingham City(?) 2012 (?). Skyed over the Ponty end cross bar. The balls still rising even now. .....
Archdeacon uncharacteristically missed one at home to Derby in the early 90's. Tony Gallimore put one wide, possibly against Grimsby in a freezing 0-0 draw on boxing day. Dire. Didn't Winnall miss one against Brizzle, and Hourihane, possibly against the blunts?
