That couple seem to be playing a game.
They say they cannot use the Harrogate tip either because their home is registered in Leeds. So while they're correct they geographically have part of their property inside the tier 2 area they know full well that their home is a Leeds registered home. They pay council tax to Leeds, use Leeds facilities etc. They're just trying it on for a bit of attention

I know, they’re being deliberately obtuse and ignorant of course.

I just thought it was a weird humorous story. Technically their garden is in tier 3, as their property was built over the border, so they’re right in what they say. Nobody will begrudge them going into their garden though.

The woman does say that she goes to a supermarket in a Tier 3 area, which is against the rules and is honestly the most egregious part, but even that I don’t think anyone will seriously get on their backs for really.

Also I think I got it wrong way round. She knows she's in Harrogate not Leeds. But yeah you're right, nobody is going to moan at her for it.
Is there even a rule stopping you going to a different tier for shopping? I didn't think there was

Now that you mention it I’m not sure. I thought so but maybe not

Obviously they can go into the garden and just a funny quirk. The pubs mentioned in that article highlight the absurd nature of the rules better for me.
For example I'm sure we could currently have 2000 fans inside Oakwell very safely in terms of limiting people's contact with each other. Then you head to Supermarkets and now many other shops that have just reopened to see far more intermingling of people. Really feel for the businesses who have arbitrarily been punished while others are allowed to continue to trade with no distinguishable difference between them.

Got a mate whose front drive is in Lincolnshire, but his access to the back of his property is via a road in Nottinghamshire.
He knows he’s based in Lincs etc but will every now and then raise it for his own amusement.

This is even better - the Old Hare and Hounds is in Birmingham and so subject to Tier 3 and closed. Joe Joe Jim's (the flat roofed one on the left) is in Worcestershire and comes under Tier 2!
