No ,no, no - it can’t be true, you’re all mistaken, Millwall is a family club, they’ve won awards for it you know....,,given to them by the ruling body, and NO-ONE works harder for these kinds of causes than them, they’ve told us numerous times - they get fed up of telling us, and having to defend themselves. Whilst ever their hooligan/racist actions are continually ignored, and they are given awards by ruling bodies - they will never change.
I'd just like to take this moment to wish my friend Stephen a happy birthday. Happy birthday Stephen.
Are you going to answer my question? How about Barnsley as a club make a big effort to position themselves at the forefront of the fight against all the injustices you mention? No lip service. No five second taking of the knee. A full blown adoption of a progressive stance. Let it be a central tenet of the club similar to St. Pauli in Germany. I'd be proud of them if they did it. I wish they would. We might gain some extra fans too along the way and the ones we lost because of it....who cares?
Racist abuse just chin them? That doesnt alway go down well the knuckle daggers are usually sat with there mates with a combined IQ of a goldfish not as easy as just chin them.
I think more clubs will follow suit. Those booing today should be dealt with but BLM has been hijacked and made political. Taking a knee on a football pitch won't stop a racist being racist. They aren't going to think look at all those highly paid guys down on one knee for a few seconds I am going to stop being a racist ***** now. I bet a fair few in every game played don't agree with it and only take part to avoid a backlash. What will change racists or have the best chance to would be to educate them in person. Our club had the right idea when Odour got sickeningly trolled.
Skipped every comment from page one Millwall have been the same fans since the 1970 s they will always will be and will always no what there club tries to change IMO uneducated idiots
Saying they won't take the knee after that is disgusting. The club had made a press release before the match stating that they weren't doing it in support of any political cause but rather against discrimination - https://www.millwallfc.co.uk/news/2020/december/first-team-squad-release-statement/ If you abandon that because some knuckle draggers booed then what kind of message are you sending?
Mate, I'm notorious for my stance on this issue. I am disgusted, sickened and embarrassed by racism. And I have personally made sure a number of 'fans' have been banned for incidents of racism in the recent and not as recent past. I interviewed Clarke Oduor just a couple of weeks ago for the matchday programme and the topic was discussed within that. I hate racism. I hate any form of discrimination, full stop. My opinion of anyone who boos players taking the knee is as low as it gets. I can assure you that the club is against racism and would be 100% against anyone booing players who take the knee. And, it's something we'll discuss over the next week or so as we prepare for fans to return to Oakwell.
Big difference in how Rowlett and Dyche reacted after fans tried to disrupt taking the knee Rowett sounded like he was scared shitless of them.
Totally agree. Even if they believe what they have put about empty gestures today was totally the wrong time to say it. They had a fantastic opportunity to say they would continue in spite of the fans today and it is exactly that attitude they want to lead from the front to change etc etc.
Massive overreaction IMHO, they are really a decent bunch at heart! What’s more I would be prepared to stand on their end an tell em so! You fkrs can’t !
There’s nothing deep about my post and that’s why you have no answer to it. I said that people who won’t attend games due to racism will not be comforted by the idea that you or anyone around them might somehow stand up for them. I said that what those people really want is to be treated like everyone else. It couldn’t be less deep.
Appreciate that Whitey. What’s happened at Millwall today is disgusting, and what Rowett said afterwards basically allows the thugs to win. How fantastic would it have been if both sets of players had walked off? And come on again 10 minutes later, and taken a knee again? And again if necessary. Until the thugs got bored, went home, or stayed, but saw no football. Let Barnsley be the team that gets this right.
I’m buoyed by the amount of people fighting the good fight in here. I don’t believe anyone would boo at Oakwell like what happened at Millwall. And if they did, it would be a VERY small minority.
What, has Millwall as a club got on the EFL? their statement says they are ‘disappointed’ about a ‘small group of supporters’ and managed to get in again about how much work they do in the community- it’s almost a defence. The EFL said it would “continue to support any players and clubs who choose to take the knee in support of tackling inequality in society. “We are disappointed that a small group of supporters have today chosen to voice their opposition to such activities directly aimed at raising awareness of the fight against racism.” “We remain committed to working with our clubs, including Millwall, who undertake a significant amount of work on equality and inclusion initiatives, as we continue with our collective objective to eradicate all types of prejudiced behaviour.”
