It's NOT a minority political movement. It's a way of showing solidarity with team mates having to put up with hatred, ignorance, bigotry, sexism, intolerance, homophobia & racism that still rears it's ugly head in 2020. If the people who spout this vile poison are regarded as having a point, normal and reasonable, then I'm happy to be labelled abnormal and unreasonable.
Agreed. It seems to me players are behind it. Marcus Rashford has shown the way in my opinion. I think he has taken the heat off professional footballers for earning ridiculously huge amounts of money & they will see him as a bit of a leader. There are other players like Harry Kane too that are right behind the BLM campaign. Education is the key to fighting racism, or any other type of hared. Get the top players speaking out. My biggest hero was Mohammed Ali as a kid. He fought in a heavyweight boxing ring better than anyone, (he did lose a few). What a spokesperson & absolute genius. I'm sure the decline for a long while of racism was helped by people like him. I remember going to Bradford in the 70's & our "fans" making racist chants at Cec Podd. What a great guy he is. Brilliant DJ. We just need to remember football is better now & we need to stop this creeping back.
There's a difference between thinking it's been done enough and actively booing it. I thought the clap for NHS became a look at me event very quickly, I didn't go out and boo my neighbours
Less than a dozen regular posters on Tykes Mad, and a couple of those don't attend the games (when supporters were allowed), so not that representative of the fan base
My view for what it's worth is that a decision needs to be made. Is taking the knee specifically about supporting BLM or is it about showing solidarity against racism in general? If it is specifically BLM then it should end and be replaced with something much more inclusive and more widely encapsulating however despite its origins I don't think it is about BLM, I think it genuinely is about racism in general and as such I don't see anything at all wrong with it. For a lot of things I think the intention is more important than the actual act and the intention behind this has absolutely nothing negative at all. I've made it clear in the past that I disagree with BLM as I feel it sends out a false message and focuses on the wrong area but if me kneeling down, showing a fist or seven waving my socks in the air tells Clarke oduor that I am against the racist minority then why the f wouldn't I do that? Anyone who chooses to boo isn't making a stance against BLM it's telling oduor that you dont support him
You obviously don't feel an affinity with the late, great John Arlott who when asked, on entry to South Africa in the apartheid era, to state his race wrote 'human'. South Africa in that era used sport as an elite, whites only means of demonstrating their superiority. Did you approve of the pressure they exerted on the MCC not to include Basil D'Oliveira in the tour party and should the MCC have complied on sporting grounds? You could draw parallels with Nazi era Germany especially the Olympic Games and the snub Hitler gave Jesse Owens because Owens didn't match the stereotype of an all conquering Aryan master race. We have to draw lines somewhere. Taking the knee is a gesture nothing more but as a small gesture towards acknowledging an ongoing injustice being done to fellow human beings I'd rather be on their side. Remember Niemoller's poem because when they come for you there'll be no one left to speak out for you.
I used to post on there. The reason I left was the racist vibe coupled with the totally infantile insult slinging with members from other clubs' boards.
