On that last point, Nintendo got a lot of praise from LGBTQIA+ members in a couple of communities I'm in for their christmas advert this year, which does exactly that. Nobody wants special treatment, just to be treated as equal and their lives to be validated and accepted.

    Advert below if you're interested.

I was at the Bradford City home game a few seasons back and it was a grey day. I said to my mate at the side of me, "it's darkening up over there". Referring to the weather and someone turned round from the row in front and inferred I had made a racist comment and asked me to be more careful with my language in future.

Love that. Subtle mention at the begining that they're both uncles just so you know but other than that absolutely no mention, nothing different, just happiness.

I think it's less about changing the views of a homophobe (as you say, it's very difficult to educate someone who doesn't want to be educated), but more about the sport and the club in particular being more inclusive.

I sometimes watch the Sheffield Steelers, and the caption for their annual inclusivity fixture is 'you can play', to insinuate that hockey is for everyone. As I say, I think the emphasis needs to shift from changing the opinions of the narrow minded, and more, promoting normality to people who are often discriminated against or marginalised.

Apologies for the tone of my post. It is a little out of character for me.

I wasn't accusing you of being homophobic, so I don't understand the relevance of you mentioning your niece.

My pet peeve at the minute is people referring to measures to make the game more inclusive as 'political'. I believe it should be everyone's basic right to be treated with equality, and that politics doesn't come into it.

Of course both yourself, and the chap who's post you were referencing, are entitled to your opinion and I respect that.

If I was playing football for Barnsley as a centre forward I wouldn't give a flying **** if the winger was gay as long as he squares me the ball to score tap ins. Likewise if I'm sat in the stand and the bloke at the side of me is gay. I don't care. I think if more people were ambivalent the world would be a much more accepting place.

Aye the good old times when you could call a player a poof or a darkie and nobody would bat an eyelid. Halcyon days.

Absolutely. Sadly, not everyone thinks like you do, and that's why things like this are necessary. As I say, not really to change other people's opinions, but more to make the marginalised feel accepted.

We have a pouf in our house. I put my feet up on it it whilst watching the telly.;) As for calling someone a big jessie I have not heard that one for a long time but recently heard someone complain about someone else that "he runs like a girl". Not really sure what that actually means since the women's 100m sprint record stands at 10.49 seconds (set in 1988) a time, I suspect the likes of you and I and everybody on this BB (unless we have some serious International sprint athletes on here) could never get near at any age.. Only 4 or 5 pro footballers have been recorded as able to can match that.

I notice on Tykes Mad someone's very bitter towards many on here. They're also made a "logical" link between socialist / social injustice ponderings and views and folk being furloughed. That's quite a leap.

Oh and those of us who don't 100% of the time use Barnsley / Yorkshire slang are educated types who are ashamed of our upbringings and being from Barnsley. Again quite a leap.

They're making me quite ashamed of being from Barnsley, reading that forum. Something needs to change. "Reading some of the posts you have to remind yourself that this is Barnsley - a once proud town full of coal mining men." is a particularly stupid comment.

Leave it out Bud. If you've endured following Barnsley for 45 years you've put up with far worse than multi coloured corner flags.

I don't think any of the posts are inherently racist and Pass and Animal are excellent posters. I agree with what they're saying about the media and the BLM movement. If you read their posts properly they're far from racists.
