This oven ready trade deal with the EU Boris said he'd got

The 'oven ready deal' was the withdrawal agreement, wasn't it? We look as far away from a trade deal as ever this evening though.

 

No the withdrawal agreement had already passed when he made his oven ready comments. He was referring to a trade agreement.

 

Yes, the easiest agreement in history.

 

Aye but he's waiting for the oven being delivered. Argos have said 4-6 weeks before they get them back in stock.

 

No Boris and co spent the last election campaign telling everyone they had an oven ready TRADE deal ready to go and it would be the easiest trade deal ever to negotiate. Problem is they didn't ask the other side if they'd agree to it first and now the country's ****** but never mind the few fishing boats we have can catch as much as they like now but sadly their biggest current market won't be available to them to sell the fish to . You really couldn't make this **** up meanwhile Boris Farage Cummings and co will make a fortune with their disaster capitalist chums while us plebs lose out big time

What I don’t understand, is why fishing, which employs about 12,000 people directly in the U.K. as far as I can gather, appears to be the hill on which the Tories are willing to die, and yet they’ve taken great delight in utterly decimating the hospitality industry, which accounts for about 3.2m jobs through direct employment, and a further 2.8m indirectly.

Yes that was 2 weeks after the WA was signed so he can only have been referring to a TA as the WA was already cooked.

As I understand it, fishing is a side issue. The biggy is whether an independent country is willing to abide by the EU rules about how it puts money into its industries and companies. What they are worried about is if we dump exports into the EU markets in order to kill off home producers, at which point we have control of the market-place and can do what we want. Not only do they want to prevent us using unfair practices, they also want the court that presides over that sort of thing to be the European Court of Justice.

Frankly, ensuring fair trade and a level playing field was always going to be a problem, especially because the UK has left because it wants increased control over its own affairs. The two sides of the argument do not stack up. The result will be huge queues at the ports and tariffs on some imports and exports. Fantastic!

 

The Withdrawal Agreement Bill received a second reading on 22 October 2019, but the legislation was paused after Parliament refused to agree to an accelerated timetable for it's completion. The bill was passed into law on 20 December 2019 after the Conservative Party's election victory. The lack of progress of the bill before that date was the reason Johnson called the election, during campaigning for which he stated he had the "oven-ready bill". It was the Withdrawal Agreement that he was referring to as I understand it.

 

The WA was agreed. It wasn’t oven ready. He was clearly referring to a Trade Agreement. Don’t buy into the revisionism. Why would workers in a factory have any interest in the WA.

 

And that is the nub of it. We were promised "the exact same benefits" while walking away from the EU and ceasing to be bound by the regulations which govern the workings of it's single market. It was a promise which could never be kept. The question now is whether Johnson will compromise in order to secure a deal, without which the chaos you predict will be heaped on the economic damage which the pandemic has caused. He will be in bother with the usual Brexit nutters if he does compromise, but if he doesn't intend to, why would he be going to meet Ursula Von Der Leyen in person later this week? Hopefully the Brexit nutters will find they are disposable, just as Cummings has.

The text to be put to Parliament might have been agreed with the EU, but it wasn't agreed by Parliament, which meant it was of no effect. He wanted a fresh Parliament which would grant agreement to his oven-ready deal, which was what he got.

 

His oven ready desk was a reference to a trade deal not the Withdrawal agreement that was already agreed. That lie is just another tory lie to hide the initial lie they told when lying to get elected.

Frankly, when the great British Brexit voters see they were conned, there is going to be hell to pay. Having full control of the country as it disappears down the toilet is not something I would say appeals to many. Even nutters have to draw the line somewhere.
