I still get it all the time. ALL THE TIME. Although, not in Barnsley. Everywhere else but not Barnsley. Barnsley, the enlightened center of the universe. Who'd have thunk it.
Are these rainbow laces going to be bizarrely long? Some time in the 90s someone, presumably at FIFA, decided having football laces that were so long you had to wrap them around and under the boot was a bonkers idea and started making them normal size. I think we need to bring back the mad length. I suspect I've missed the key issue of this thread.
It's true managers don't like gay footballers in their teams. Look at Justin Fashanu. He became a journeyman at such a young age. We can have all the gestures but that won't stop prejudice which only vents if the person is daft enough to blurt out their feelings. What manager these days is going to come out and say I don't want gay players in my team? Likewise whose going to come out and say I was released because I'm gay?
Do they need to " come out" though. None of my business anybody's sexuality. The only thing that is my business is to help to try and ensure that no one is ridiculed, bullied or worse because of it. I honestly think that my kids generation is so much more relaxed about the whole notion that in their time then we may have an article in Grove street where a player mentions about their boyfriend and kids moving to Barnsley to be with them
I agree. I really think it's an issue that the current generation don't see as a problem which can only be a good thing.
Wouldn't that be brilliant. No coming out, just casually mentioning something like that and nobody really noticing
It's just to tell any gay (or other) players and fans that those wearing the boots support them whether they're 'out' or not. For example if I post on here that I am not homophobic, that any gay person would have nothing to worry about from me and that is support them then a gay person reading that may feel better. May feel happy knowing that if they need to they can tell me or that if I accidentally found out they wouldn't have to worry. Problem is once it becomes an EFL initiative that isn't the case. Are players wearing rainbow laces because they choose to or because the club has announced that they will be?
