Tweets like that do far more harm than good IMO. All it does is give racists and racist apologists a green light to carry on. It also offers no incentive for people who need better educating. ‘Well John Barnes is black and he said’... What he’s saying is ********. I would use any other thing to describe the only black person in a room. Any other thing than ‘the black person in the corner’. I’m just picturing me doing that in a meeting at work. Yeah but he was on the bench and in training gear with a big coat on, so you couldn’t see any shirt number. Either way, identifying someone as ‘the black man’ is at best stupid, at worst racist. In the current climate, for a Champions League official to do that is indefensible.
