Is to me! Good song and one that they are obliged to go whenever they perform (well, mostly). Their great rivals over the years, Fairport Convention did a spoof on this song a few years ago at Cropredy called “Crudités”, obviously sung as “crew-day-tays” etc.
When my daughter got married 16 years ago she asked me to find something to take her down the aisle, so I chose this. It's not my favourite classical piece but it's a nice change from Mendelssohn's 'Wedding March'. Prelude (Te Deum) - Charpentier - Bing video
Is it your favourite because of the Troika sample? Troika is a beautiful piece of music and one of my favourites too. It’s also one of the few things I still remember how to play on the piano!
An obvious one for me. I first heard this in the late 70s, as part of the animated film "Allegro Non Troppo." The animated sequence below is an extract from that film and does a nice take on the creation of life and the rise of civilisation. It's also one of the few classical pieces I could name.
1) Cantata Memoria for the Children by Karl Jenkins - an absolutely brilliant work - words and music - commemorating the 116 and 28 children killed by the NCB at Aberfan in 1966. (Listen to it on You Tube - every time I listen to it I'm moved to tears.) 2) Catrin Finch - Welsh harpist duetting with Seckou Keita Senegalese kora player. 3) Mitsuko Uchida playing Mozart Piano Concerto in D Minor. 4) Treorchy Male Voice Choir singing Cwm Rhondda - Guide me o Thou Great Redeemer....
This always gets me somewhere between heart & head. Overused, I know. But this please at my cheapo send off. & Satellite of Love. & a cardboard box & shed loads of flowers. Plant me beneath a new tree in Wentworth. Cheers.!!
