Just keep your eyes open and watch what happens over the next few days Mansfield. Ultimately, whether I'm wrong and pretty much everyone else on this thread is right, or vice versa, will all come out in the wash after SCOTUS has reached its verdict. As a football fan, surely you should know that until the final whistle blows no-one can truly claim the bragging rights.
It’s interesting though how the opinion in the US isn’t as clear cut on these issues of fraud as it is on the BBS. It’s moved from ‘zero fraud’ to ‘not enough fraud to change an election’. I think people would have a different perspective on some of the claims if the Tories had beaten Labour under the same scenarios. In the same way the Hunter Biden issues that are dismissed by many wouldn’t be dismissed as easily if that was Trump JR. As for investigations in to the Trump organisation. It’s needed across all sides. The political world over here appears to be so corrupt in so many places it doesn’t stop at Trump. Biden, Harris, other Republicans. They’re all at it mate.
But why are Republican's in key states standing by the election result? Politicians of all colours and nations are dodgy to some degree I accept that. But to rig an election to such a degree is beyond farfetched.
The thing is..... if I'm wrong and Trump isn't confirmed for a second term, what is anyone going to possibly say that hasn't already been said? "See Trump lost... We told you you all along that you were wrong. Loser!" and possibly something about Loch Ness monsters or lizards. and I'll be like "Yes, fair enough. Well done you did. You are all very clever." Then I will just move on, think nothing more of it and find something else to amuse myself in what's left of the lockdown. Perhaps I might engage myself in a few more football related discussions. On the other hand, if I'm right.... well I won't need to say anything because the people who have been cockily giving me stick over the past 6 weeks will feel like numpties without me having to remind them. And then I will have the satisfaction of knowing that every day for the next 4 years I can wake up and smile to myself in the knowledge that Trump being in the White House continues to grind your gears on a daily basis.
Some of the same people saying it’s far fetched to rig an election are the same ones who made similar claims four years ago using Russia as the ‘evidence’. That storm carried on for two years and some of the Democrats who went big on Russia have been forced to stand down on those claims. There’s dodgy to a degree and then there’s the US. We get infuriated by what the Tories do over here but there’s Democrats up to the same thing but that doesn’t get on our radar (and Republicans - but that does get mentioned now and again).
Trust me, if Trump's partisan court subverts democracy to such a degree that they overturn this election, there will be no laughing at all. I'd be absolutely shocked if a large scale civil war didn't break out if that happened.
No doubt. Not sure I fully agree on the subverting democracy comments but it would definitely get nasty. It already is with the militia, BLM, protests in the name of Antifa, etc. Look at Portland. It would have turned nasty on election night had Trump won. CA and NY boarded up towns in anticipation of that result rather than because of a Biden win. Thankfully it was a bit of a non-event other than a few people outside polling stations.
I didn’t reply to this because I put the Wycombe game on the big telly and was forced in to washing the dishes as I watched it! I’m sure there’s lots we would agree on and disagree on mate, but that’s how it should be in my mind. But for some reason that mentality seems to have disappeared in recent years and everything has moved to ‘black or white’ with no middle ground of seeing both sides on anything. I think that position is easier to find in person, down the pub, than it is typing on an Internet forum with zero tone of voice or body language to back up what you’re saying. I’d be nodding my head along with a lot of what you say and then saying ‘but what about xxx’ and you’d go back and forth. Calmly. On the evasive comment though I think that’s unfair. I’ve openly stated I would have probably voted Republican if I was a US resident, but without living here full time I can’t be certain. I’ve also given a ton of reasons as to why I would, but everything always comes back to Trump over policies. I understand why, but it makes any discussion hard on the subject.
Yes. I would expect there to be a coup of some kind if the election result is overturned. In the event of that happening I would expect that Trump would instantly invoke the Insurrection Act and use the full force of the military to quickly quell any uprising.
In the event of any supreme court decision, I will be reading the ruling and dissention extremely carefully. Did you see the PA absentee ruling that occurred when the court was 8 members? All the Republican judges voted against, with the exception of Roberts, while all Democrat appointed, along with Roberts voted for upholding the lower court decision. Kavanaugh's ruling was honestly like something out of a parody. Part of his opinion was based on "Americans want to know the result on election night" and in his statement he referenced a news article that was heavily discredited. The other Republican judges had valid opinions that, while I disagreed with them fundamentally, I can at least see why they made the decision. That's what I'm talking about when I say subvert democracy. ******** answers like that which just spit in the face of democracy. Funnily enough, Kavanaugh in my opinion is the most likely of the Trump appointees to vote against Texas in this case. I think Alito and Thomas both vote in Texas' favour, judging by what I know of them and their records, along with Coney-Barrett (after all, this is the reason she was chosen...). Gorsuch I think is likely to side with Texas and I'd put Kavanaugh as a toss-up at this point. All the liberal judges along with Roberts will almost certainly vote against Texas, unless something extremely damning comes out. It's a ******* sad state of affairs that I'm able to predict how supreme court justices will side though. And I disagree with you regarding election night. Many counting areas had to be closed early as a result of republican intimidation. Turning up to the counting area with assault rifles and bulletproof vests in Arizona for example. There was little Democrat violence for obvious reasons, but you're completely disregarding all the violence and threats of violence from republicans which did occur, maybe not specifically on election night, but in the days that followed. Also, I have friends that were at the BLM protests every single day in Seattle. The right-wing media portrayal of what happened there was so far away from reality it's insane. It was far from ideal what happened in the CHAZ, I admit, but there was very little violence. In fact I was on facetime with one of my friends multiple nights and on multiple occasions I saw violence and looting break out, but it was the other protesters that stopped them every time and handed them over to the police.
I think you'll find that a lot of the top generals will not side with Trump. It will get very ugly. The entire world should be hoping it doesn't come to that, because it will infect over here, too.
I'm not saying for a second it didn't happen. What was nonsense was how right-wing media portrayed the protests as though that was the majority, when it wasn't even close. Tens of thousands of people attended the protests. You can find videos of the minority to prove whatever point you want.
got a video with a few thousand burning and looting, but will not pursue it, suppose they was mad about things that had gone on, one bad apple and all that
Because you're impartial and are only doing this to pass time during lockdown, remember. That's what you keep telling us. So I thought you'd be well up for that.
