I like Kane and think that he'll develop into a good player for us but it's easy to forget that he's still quite young and only just settling in with us. He did contribute to a couple of their goals goals though unfortunately.
I think tonight just needs putting down to experience and move quickly on to the next game.

Just for the record, Walton had conceded just 4 goals in 11 (ELEVEN) home league games since lockdown ended. He has the best goalkeeping clean sheet record for Barnsley since Clive Baker in the early 1980s. He's had a bad game, but not many of the 10 in front of him have covered themselves in glory defensively tonight.

Just get behind the team, we have some exciting youngsters playing for us. There will be ups and downs along the way, but I firmly believe we are heading in the right direction

You obviously have got an agenda ,thats why you have waited so long to have a dig at the lad , he is a young player & young players make mistakes but he will learn from that & the last thing he needs is fans getting on his case & damaging his confidence , he needs the fans to back him & show him some support . If you wait long enough he will make other mistakes & you will be able to have another go at him ,but seriously , giving him stick is pathetic.

This reminds me of the threads back on the old mailing list, when certain people would crucify David Watson. To those of us who saw Watson play, two things were obvious: firstly, that he was by no means the finished article, and therefore he had certain weaknesses in his game; and secondly, that on his day, he was truly world class. I've seen some fantastic players for Barnsley over the years. Plenty who could have regularly played in the Premier League (and did), and a handful who could or should have been in consideration for the England squad, but for whatever reason weren't selected (I won't include Stones as I never saw him play for us). We can include Redfearn and Futcher in this bracket. Ward, Hignett, De Zeeuw and Muller would surely have been regular internationals had they qualified to play for countries not quite as strong as the ones that they did. But Watson was the only player who, to me at least, it looked clear would be so comfortable on the world stage that it wasn't even open to debate. Most of us expected that he would be an England regular by the time he was in his late 20's, and I still maintain that would have been the case had he not picked up his injury. He's the only keeper I've ever seen who you'd always have backed in a one on one, no matter who the striker was. Only Shilton and Schmeichel were similarly brilliant in that situation.

This may all sound like I'm digressing in a thread about Jack Walton, but the point is that he is still very young. Even more so for a goalkeeper, and considering that they usually peak at around 30, he's still got a hell of a lot of improving to do. Just like with Watson and his fallibility on crosses, Walton has occasionally shown some positional and judgement errors this season. However, he has won us so many points, and the good so clearly outweighs the less good by a factor of about 20:1 that I can't even believe that his place should be up for debate. These errors will become fewer and fewer as he gains more experience.

By the way, before anyone remarks that Walton isn't anywhere near Watson's level, I agree. Very few are. But I do believe that Walton will have a very good career as a top end Championship to mid-level Premier League 'keeper. Hopefully that will be with us.

I went to Newcastle when Watson was in goal and he pulled off the greatest save I've ever seen. Ball came over from the right wing and Shearer rose and headed it. Goal all over but somehow Watson intuitively moved and intercepted it and kept it out. Can't remember if it was league or cup but it was unbelievable. On a par with Banks.
As to Walton, so far the jury is out for me. Not convinced either way.

No point being rude just because someone has an opinion. If he thinks Walton is crap fair enough. If you don't, fair enough.

There's opinions and then there's being quiet for weeks of good performances and bringing up an old thread abusing a young player after every mistake.

Was he abusive? I can't remember him being so... Shouldn't be if he was of course. No need. All I can remember is him bumping a post because he's got a view he wants to reinforce. Nothing wrong in that. Nobody wants to see abuse on here in any way. I'm sure you'd agree.

This is twice now that he's pathetically bumped this thread in an attempt to prove people wrong who didn't think the best keeper at the club should be dropped. Nothing for weeks while Jack was putting fantastic performances in and takes great glee in our own player making a mistake, just so he can be proven 'right'.

I stand by my **** off.

Yeah I thought they were both to blame. Sollbauer caught flat footed and Christ knows what Walton was doing.

Those two have saved us plenty of times though so these things happen.

In general I agree with you wholeheartedly. However, in this instance, I fully second @BarnsleyReds 's "f*ck off".

So because Jack Walton is a footballer, Scott can be rude to Jack, but BR can’t be rude to Scott in response?

    Inconsistent logic there, pal.
