I agree much better technically but those few years of Tyson were scary. He'd fight a nearly 7ft fighter on the inside by basically smashing their rib cage to bits and then on their way down upper cut em to sleep. He was a brawler, a very nasty angry man.
Yep after prison he was done. Even before that he was on a downward spiral. He had so many folk taking advantage and he was living an unhealthy and dubious lifestyle. I still watch his first fights and I've never to this day seen anyone who could do what he did.
He was amazing. He's why I got into boxing. As a young kid I saw this ferocious bloke smashing men to bits on the TV. My dad saw I was into it and began to show me old videos of the greats, and I was hooked. But as Django points out, over time you realise what it's all about. And in reality, Mike came up short in the big fights.
He did eventually but I think that was because he burned out too soon. Don King has a lot to answer for. I met Mr King in 2008 he was the joint promoter for an Amir Khan fight. Extremely over the top and friendly. Once I started asking him a few questions (linked to his rather nasty past) he switched to being a prize lovely person. He flew cattle class on a flight from Atlanta and made such big deal of it, trying to act like a man of the people. Nasty piece of work.
If I was picking a winner for Fury v Joshua it would be Fury - but I don’t see it as one sided as some on here. It’s not quite 50/50 of course but Joshua is a lot better than to only have a punchers chance. He’s a much better boxer than Wilder, and even that one-trick pony tagged Fury with a few big ones. There was a bit of ring rust and a few nerves tonight I thought but he got through it and knocked out a fella with a pretty granite chin, albeit easier to hit than he was hyped up to be.
Not convinced. He wouldn’t continually rough him up like Ruiz did. If he caught him he’d spark Joshua out - but I’m not convinced he would. Deontay Wilder goes into every fight with only a punchers chance as a punch is all he has. A bloody good one, but still. I think AJ Wilder is unlikely to happen though now to be honest. I don’t think Joshua is as good as Fury but he’s much better than you and others give him credit for in my view. I think they have a good fight, not one sided, with Fury to edge it. But I’d be neither surprised nor disappointed if AJ won.
AJ v Fury at Wembley should be the first real blockbuster event that the UK holds post Lockdown/Covid. The whole country should stop to watch it. Every news channel should be covering it for weeks in the build up, pubs and houses should be packed with families and friends watching it together, and it should break all British PPV records. This isn’t Lennox v Bruno. Or even Eubank v Benn. It’s bigger than that. This is two British fighters, one of which is an Olympic Gold Medal winner, fighting for all the marbles in the highest profile and most historic division in boxing. Anyone involved in not making this fight happen should be tried for treason. I’m exaggerating with that last comment, but only a little.
