If this latest article is accurate, then we should have no trouble finding a striker to compliment Woodrow...."Ooh, Cauley, yer brilliant at pens and thas got lovely legs". Reckon 1k/week should cover that
The thing is though , he hasn"t said a word , its the press what have , he has just got on with playing , top professional
Somebody should pull up the YP then for quoting him from a match day program then if he hasn’t said a word.
If the sum total of our ambition is to stay up, we'll continue to lose players to mid table Championship clubs. If we show a bit more ambition, not only might we keep hold of Mowatt a bit longer, but the players with more potential (e.g. Styles) might hold out for a top Championship club / Premier League club. Rather than jumping ship when Stoke come calling.
If Mowatt doesn't want to re-sign I'd sell. I'd be p1ssed off if we sold him anyway but I'd be even more p1ssed off if he went for nothing.
Am not sure how much value a sell on clause is likely to have with him, so the fee would have to be significant even with only 6 months left on his contract imo.
He's playing well but I look at other clubs higher up the league and think who would he improve? He isn't Premier League class like Hourihane was. Realistically if he left it would be a sideways move for money. In this scenario I'd be disappointed the club couldn't agree terms with him.
It's a good question I don't know what the clubs ambition is, I presume it's to maintain Championship status for a number of years gradually improving year on year until our club is in a stable enough position to make a push for the Premier league. Yoyoing between the top 2 divisions might be another plan because we are a long long way from being able to competive in the prem. Look at Sheffield Utd, WBA, Fulham bottom 3 all way in advance of us on and off the pitch.
Yep and if he signs a 3/4 year contract unless he improves dramatically in that time it’s unlikely his contract after would go up. If he signs a 2 year then maybe.
He isn't going to get any quicker and his all round game isn't Premier League. Where would he go? Stoke City, Cardiff, QPR or Preston?
Personally, I believe Alex Mowatt has been our best player since relegation in 2018. He's been consistent, a driving force in midfield, an excellent leader, he never hides and his performances have increased in quality under the new Head Coach, in my opinion. I'd love to see him sign a new contract with us and extend his stay. However, if he were to leave, he'd go with my best wishes for the future, along with gratitude & appreciation for his contributions here.
He'll be at his peak in 3-4 years. If he signed a contract that long with us (which I personally would be very very surprised at unless it had clauses in it) he'd be in his prime as a possible free agent. So I'm not too sure how that would make any move for him now, his last opportunity.
Because he would peak, but after the peak you go down. So someone signing him would know he’s at or had his best. we will just after agree to disagree, I think this is his best earning opportunity you don’t, it’s all about opinions.
I would think that, if Mowatt were to leave, we would need to recruit Whiteman, or keep James. With the formation having shifted from 3-5-2 to 3-4-3, it means we have a couple too many midfielders and a couple too few strikers, though. That needs adjustment. I think Mowatt will leave if he and the club get a good enough offer, otherwise I would be delighted if he were to sign a new contract. As captain, he must be on the top whack under our salary structure.
The way the game is going (youth, pace and fitness), his peak is right now. Make no mistake. Whilst he’d still do a very good job at 28/29, it probably wouldn’t be with the same tempo game that he does now. If he left us, it’d be like others say - a side-ways move but for more money. He isn’t Prem quality. Be nice for him to stay on a sensible deal, but if not, he needs to go next month. No doubt he’ll want to stay until the summer, for a freebie to enable bigger wages.
Seeing as many criticise him for his lack of pace, is it not reason to suggest he would age better and his peak be more prolonged? I think there is an obsession with pace and power. And whereas there is obviously a place for that in the game, it's still the case that probably 70-80% (maybe even higher) of the player pool aren't blessed with either.
