I do find it funny that he always types the words ‘I’d have voted Republican’ rather than just owning that he’d have voted for Trump as that was the Republican candidate.

Just like the Brexiteers that refuse to take ownership of the mess the country is in

“I can understand why you wouldn’t vote for the nasty racist mysoginist, but I would have gladly done it, even though I don’t like racists or mysoginists”.

It amuses me how many times he compares the democrats to the tories, rather than comparing the tories to the US party with the same ideology.

Yep. That's what I'm saying. But the caveat there is I said I probably would, not definitely, as I don't live in the US so can't be certain how different policies would affect me. But I do know I'm against defunding the police, against lockdown, for jobs, against minimum wage (in the US), against the laxing of their immigration policies and plans for granting Visas (even though I'd love one!), for the stock market, for small businesses, for business, against the release of criminals and the laxing of rules like the news ones in LA, and for the military.

And even if I hated Trump as much as some people do, there's not much to like about Biden and especially Harris. Separating the hatred for Trump for just a second it must have been the worst election in history in terms of candidates - at President and Vice President level.

You're funny. You post about me like I'm not 'in the room' when I clearly am. It's pretty strange but did make me laugh.

I think you'll find I've been happy to own everything I've said and actually speak up without levelling any criticism at anybody.

    And another one ......

You can do better than this surely? It's just rude when being rude isn't needed

Tbh Ben with that list you sound like the archetypal Trump voter so no surprise you'd vote for him.

But rather than say that Helen why not point out what you don't agree with? Obviously just my opinion, but they're all pretty fair thing to be 'pro' about surely? I didn't even include the complete closure of Fracking, which would surely be no different to the closure of the mining industry?

Have you seen the change to the rules on bail in LA with the newly appointed DA? It's madness in my book. Also minimum wage over there, because of their tipping culture, will just force prices up and tipping down and people will be worse off. A trial in Seattle showed this apparently. Being for small business doesn't really make me an obvious Republican, does it?

Answered it previously but the tipping culture in the US allows people in those kind of hospitality or service roles the opportunity to make good money and good careers, beyond what you tend to be able to build for yourself here. If your beer goes up $3 and your steak $10, you might be earning $4 more an hour but you're not fetching home the $400 rakes on a busy shift.

That's just from the panel debate I watched where they talked about some trial in Seattle that showed people would earn less money.

I was replying to someone in a thread you have been posting in for 93 pages. How is that like you’re not in the room? People refer to other posters all the time.

Surely waiters aren't taking home $400 in tips a shift are they?

And what about the poorly paid jobs that aren't hospitality based?

I think being pro military , the defunding of the police, anti minimum wage does yes. Correct me if I'm wrong but the idea behind defunding is that more money goes towards civil projects and the reach of police into non criminal matters decreases. Its not a case of saying we aren't going to have a police force.

In the US? They will do on some nights and even more in the right venues. I was being conservative saying $400.

The standard service charge there is 20% so if you imagine a table of eight with a $400 bill. That's $80 before you even start and with really good service will be over $100. One table. Even Bar Tenders can rake in $300 a night in tips because every drink ordered comes with a tip, but that won't carry on if the prices go up, and they likely will if the $15 wage is brought in as a blanket increase.

So for 5 shifts a week they're earning $104,000 on top of their basic salary?

I can't remember who it was or where it was (in terms of the state, country or city) but it was fairly recently that someone was arguing for abolishing the police force. Considering how under-funded our police force is I would think the last thing we'd throw support behind is defunding the police, even if it is spent in different areas. Ignoring the protests and the riots, there's a far far bigger percentage who have huge respect and support for the Police.

Pro military - trying not to go to war/bringing troops home.

Minimum wage - see my replies above that explain why.

I don't think any of that is obviously Republican? Just a personal viewpoint I'm happy to share even though it sends replies through the roof and some people trying to use it against me for thinly veiled criticism.

Turning the questioon on its head. Which of those things don't you think as Republican then?

Obviously not every night. You're going to extremes there and I'm obviously just giving the best examples.

Another example. I haven't seen my Father-in-law leave anything less than a $4 tip when we order a round of coffee from Dutch Brothers. I'm sure he's not alone in that, but he won't leave that if the round of coffee goes up the equivalent. Based on the how big the queues are a wage increase wouldn't help them financially.
