God that was a dreadful game, wasn't it? Bloody freezing cold as well as I remember.

I believe Michael Tonge had a shot from distance in the first half, and Craig Davies blasted one wide in the second. Coventry had a few more efforts, but nothing of real interest until Clive Platt scored in injury time.

There was a trip to Hull under Keith too where I think we had 4 defenders and 6 midfielders and never had a shot.

    Halcyon days.

King Keef's 4-6-0 formation. I remember it well. Sure we went back to Hull a few weeks later in the cup and won.

The writing was on the wall after that defeat at Hull for Keith Hill in November 2012. He'd truly lost the plot and was relieved of his duties the following month following Christmas defeats to Birmingham and Blackburn. The Cup run was under Flicker though (beating Burnley, Hull and MK Dons before succumbing to Man City 5-0). We went on to the Great Escape under Flicker

Was the Blackburn game the one with Craig Davies' infamous penalty miss?

You've not mentioned anything about the game at all!! You could just do a pub crawl!

On a pub crawl I don't spend two hours sat with my family. I wouldn't bump into people I've known since I was 5 years old. I wouldn't meet the dozens of people I've got to know from posting on here. Or the people I know from going to watch Barnsley over 40 years. We wouldn't all have a common interest that brought us all into town on that day and gives an ice breaking first line "Did you go to the game?"
On a pub crawl there wouldn't be such a diverse set of people: families, young and old, people who have travelled from all over the country, sometimes all over the globe.
Football is community, it sparks the town into life, and the best days of the year are Saturdays when Barnsley win and you can enjoy living life with people who share an interest. You only spend the first 5 minutes talking about football, then you move on to real stuff, but it's the catalyst that brings you together.
That's why it's important, how much possession we have doesn't matter to me at all.

I wonder if Red Rain could post provisional half time ratings on here for each game? That way we could know whether or not we should be enjoying it? :D:D:D

Im sure when you say engaged in the measurements of thing you mean numerical measures. There is bias in all stats this is normal and taken into account in the measurement selection, tools, data set etc. There is an equally important and recognised science that is based on qualitative no numerical measures. My point wasnt one is more accurate than the other per se but that the selection of measure will affect accuracy. Statistical measures of ‘entertainment value’ is the wrong choice. Entertainment is based on individual perception, enjoyment, emotion. You can make your numbers fit the argument but you cant make them fit the objective (in any credible way)

I think what @Red Rain has done, is try to quantify the quality of the football that has been played, which imo is a different to how entertaining it was. The quality of football played is one factor to entertainment, but there is also the context of the game and sequence of events which contribute to the drama.

Best example I can think of is the last game of last season. The fact that it was the last game, one team fighting relegation the other going for promotion will have all added to the spectacle for neutrals. Had the exact same game happened, even the week before, there would've been some raised eyebrows but not the same entertainment value.

Another example is the two Liverpool - Newcastle games in the 90s, which both finished 4-3. The first game is considered one of the most entertaining games ever in the PL. The second game seen as a poor imitation of a sequel. The first game was in the context of a title race, and the sequence of events with the lead changing hands a few times all added to the drama. The following year, a game was still entertaining and had the drama of a last minute winner, but not as good as the game before. Had a game had the same events happen, but in a different order, which led to the last goal being a consolation goal, this scoring would've been the same, but entertainment would've been far less.

Well, that was a can of worms wasn't it. I think I might stick to Minority Report in future. It is less controversial.

No because although someone made a last ditch tackle to prevent a goal, the keeper pulled off 3 top class saves that were destined for the top corner, one player dribbled round the entire team before scoring the best goal I've ever seen but there were also 20 fouls, 2 penalties and 4 red cards so it was a full boring game. I much preferred last week's nil nil with the back four seeig 90% of the ball the computer tells me it was more entertaining
