I haven't seen one single post 'blindly' defending the club really. A few people highlighting that everything we signed up for as Reds Reserved Plus members was with a caveat on the broadcasting partner.

I'm not sure the club can be blamed for an EFL/iFollow enforced rule can they? And we can't then blame the club on the terms of that season ticket, as we signed up knowing we were at the mercy of the broadcaster. It's frustrating, poor form, and it feels like we've been massively cheated. But I don't feel any of those things towards the club on this issue.

The club advertise all midweeks games. It's on their website. We purchased via that website. Why is it someone else's fault that they use incorrect advertising material?

But on that website it clearly said 'dependent on broadcaster permissions' or words to that effect. The broadcaster permissions haven't been granted for this game. So is our umbrage with the club of the broadcaster? Broadcaster for me.

https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2020/august/streaminginfo/ I don't see any such caveats here

You're right, but I was referencing the point/page where you paid for and booked your season ticket. That's the point us Red Reserved Plus fans parted with money. I'm not sure I'd be expecting it to be repeated on streaming news, but it'd be reasonable to think at the time that the club had no idea the EFL would move to class the Rotherham game as a weekend fixture. Imagine on their part the rules were set for the season, just like we did.

Clearly there's not, just RR+ get all away games. But, having seen how this thread, and others, have panned out, get ready to learn that "We await further guidance from governing bodies on this matter" actually means, in law, that a Tuesday is traditionally a weekend.

It depends in what order you take things. T said dependent on broadcaster permissions but after that they announced what the agreed matches were.

So the club made a clear representation that we would be entitled to watch midweek away games and is now seeking to pass the buck and hide behind the small print in terms and conditions (which may not actually be effective given the clarity of the representation). The point is there is no direct relationship between the consumer and the EFL. It should be for the club to deliver on its promises to the consumer, and then if it suffers loss due to the EFL it should take it up with the EFL. Instead it is shrugging its shoulders and saying "not my problem" and allowing the fans to get shafted.

Can you not see why this is a **** approach from the club which is only going to engender ill-feeling? I've paid for some away matches this season but that won't be happening again. In fact I might decide that away games are actually classed as home games, as they're played at a team's home ground, just not Barnsley's. Seeing as I have a contractual entitlement to home games and Barnsley aren't providing them I might choose to remedy that breach of contract by way of self-help, i.e. streaming all future away games.

There's other posts in here along the same lines, but it wasn't exactly small print that said 'broadcaster permissions'. Most of the folk I know were half expecting us to get zero away games, so when midweek came it was a bonus.

I haven't said once this isn't a crap approach, but I just don't see it being a crappy one from the club and firmly lay the blame at the door of the EFL/iFollow.

Do you not see though that we bought from the club and simply washing their hands of it is extremely shitty when they should be forcing the issue?

Also don't you see it as extremely irresponsible to have promotional material on the website which states all midweek games when this isn't true? As a large business shouldn't they have checked the details before publishing that? It's not the first time they've not checked before advertising things. Every single thing with red reserved plus for 2 years has been over promising on things they couldn't deliver. At what point is enough enough?

Completely agree on this. Has been poor at times for sure.

I think on this particularly issue I'm just taking a more lenient view. One club pushing the EFL won't make a blind bit of difference as you'd need everyone to kick off. Thing is none of the other teams probably care as much because they haven't built in any free games for season ticket holders. Let's not forgot we were the only club in the Championship* that made home and away games free for season ticket holders last season.

*Actually maybe one other team did. I'm not sure.

As others say, just pay a Tenner.

I’ve saved loads of cash last season and this with no access to Oakwell, so the occasional tenner (which helps the club) is a no brainer.

I think that's the thing. How many other affected clubs chose to upsell the season tickets with a two tier system? From what I can see not many at all. My opinion is that once a club has chose to do that they simply have to deliver on the promises but Barnsley time and time again fail to do so and rely on brand loyalty from customers in not kicking up a fuss. Legally it is false advertising (certainly was last year) and morally it's bang out of order but because we are fans they keep taking the piss and show no signs of that changing sadly

Or maybe they didn't missell the coverage package to their fans so there is no pressure?

Barnsley should only offer what they can provide next season and not try and pass the buck after the fact.

That’s the learning needed here. At the beginning all away games had been promised subject to EFL approval. Then it got watered down to only midweek games then that’s been watered down to games on a weekend played on a Tuesday.

Imagine will be shenanigans around bank holidays and then Easter after seeing this happen at Xmas.
