Remembering being that close to her when she visited Barnsley in the 80's - mum saw them all a Queens Garden party she was invited to because of her charity work
Paul Walsh - @rse of the highest order. David Hillier - very pleasant Adam Woodyatt (Eastenders) -used to be my pen pal! Very nice at the age of 11! Big Liverpool / Sammy Lee fan at the time. Ben Clarke - British Lions - worked with him on a rugby project in the 90s - lovely bloke.
Red 24/7......I'm not sure about beautiful in a classic sense, more imposing. She definitely had a presence about her but then it's hard not to when you're surrounded by a fawning entourage
Ian Beale as a pen pal takes some topping, my wife had a Nigerian boy as a penpal,as a child, apparently he just used to put , I am thinking about you and will meet you one day, on all his letters, still time I keep telling her
Seen Dickie Bird a few times in that Cooper Art Gallery cafe. Always ready to talk to anyone who's interested in Barnsley FC or cricket. Zoe Ball looks fitter in real life than on telly and very nice. Biggest knob I met bar none was Charlie Cooke ex Chelsea. Must be where the phrase "Big time Charlie" came from. Refused to sign any autographs for little kids lined up to greet the coach and was very arrogant.
imagine if it was Jay-Jay Okocha , he about her age, better not tell her, he is worth 15 million dollars and better at keep uppy than me I expect, although I did win a six million dollarman sticker at Filey butlins when I managed 10 in the beaver club sports afternoon
You've actually reminded me. I met Patsy Kensit at a gig her band did in Leicester in 85/86 -she was beautiful. I asked her for a date and she said she'd think about it. A few years ago she was being interviewed by Steve Wright on the radio one afternoon having got a job on Emmerdale. I tried ringing in to remind her and tell her there was no need to keep thinking about it anymore because I was married with two kids. Sadly, I couldn't get through.
I was in the crowd with Jimmy Cricket at the Merseyside FA Cup final. I did say it. Along with a thousand others. He was great, had time for everyone and was probably at the peak of his fame.
Got a photo with him in January at Newlands, he begrudgingly obliged. Met Botham outside the MCG and he was clearly in a rush to get off but stopped for everyone to have a photo. Top man.
Stayed at the posh Cipriani late 90s not long after Diana had stayed. You had to get a boat back to the hotel from St Marks. We were on one night when David Frost got on, sorry, fell on, paralytic. He sat down, dusted himself down and straightened his specs so I piped up 'hello, good evening and welcome'. He was the only one who didn't laugh.
People keep jogging my memory. Speaking of people being fit, we once met the two women on coronation street with the same colour black hair (I dont watch it so dont know beyond that) in the Ox Noble pub in Manchester. They were really fit and a great laugh and helped us play a practical joke on my mate. I used to go in the Grapes pub near the Granada studios a bit and there were always a couple of the corrie cast in, Les Battersby propping up the bar and Bradley Walsh for a bit. He was hilarious a complete extrovert
Forgot to say, saw Daniel Stendel in Morrisons in town, just before we got promoted. He was with Chris Sterne and had a chat with them. Nice guys, limited English, but really nice guys
I was once sat outside a cafe in Didsbury with half a dozen mates. A blacked out people carrier pulled up and Jon Thompson got out and walked into the cafe. As he reached the door my mate stood up and said: "I'm sorry I can't help it" "Grrreat" He pointed at us from his hip and said "Super" we just fell about laughing
Dickie more than once. Never seemed to pay for owt. My aunty was good mates with Charlie Williams so bumped into him a few times flower. Most the BBc snooker set up and a fair number of players. Played a frame against Ebdon as a kid. Trained with Jamal Blackman Got shoulder barged by Giroud cos he was in a rush Rachel ferguson That Sam Nixon kid and his silly mate Stan richards Ashley jackson Shaun Dooley Jack charlton Loads of random Emmadale types Most barnsley players and managers over the years. To name but a few.
My Wife still talks about meeting Dickie Bird, used her phone to do a telephone interview with Radio Station when we got promoted.
My great grandad sent Keith Burkinshaw - ex Spurs manager -to bed once. He lived next door to them in Barnsley - my grandad had 19 kids and thought Keith was one of his. Keith's mum found him tucked up and asleep with the others. Anna Friel - while she was on Brookside. We reached out for the same cakes in Tesco - being the gent I let her have them. Took me five minutes to remember her who she was - kept saying where do I know that face from? Met a few of the cast as they drank in our bar at uni - good bunch! My mate was main sports journalist in the West Midlands - had a few tales to tell about his experiences at Wolves and Villa. Apparently Martin O'Neil was the most arrogant man he's ever met while Big Mick was a legend
