How many times will people stick up for Walton?

This is a great point. Only about a month ago we had people on here claiming Mowatt shouldn’t be starting. Ridiculous

    Here he is.

I think around 90% of goalkeepers are more likely to attempt to punch the ball, versus attempting to catch it, from a cross/corner. It's been that way for about ten years now.

Davies is such a difficult keeper to judge.

You can split his time with us into 3 sections - when he broke into the team, after the Winnall error against Wednesday & after we got relegated & he rebounded.

The big problem was the middle section lasted over a season & he was pretty dreadful during that period. However he was excellent in the first & third sections. I rate him but can see why others wouldn’t.

Not wishing to contradict but I think this lads a better shot stopper and his instinctive saving as good as most I’ve seen. A little raw. But I genuinely believe he’ll go further up the pyramid than Davies. As I say I believe Davies was better protected. His distribution probably one of the worst I’ve seen. Lest we forget.

I think Walton is young, raw and will only get better. His shot stopping is great. He does have to work on crosses and today i thought he could have done better but he would have needed support from his defence who allowed all the Rotherham forwards to drive into the 6 yarder. He will improve but right now i think he needs games to keep his confidence growing and good coaching to help improve. Maybe there isn't enough competition as Collins hasn't taken his chance when he has been given a start.

That isn’t 100% true. Davies got his move to Stoke on the back of playing in a zonal marking system under Stendel. That’s when we first introduced it properly and Stendel explained that at the Trust night he did (I think you were there?)

Did you watch the Chelsea game? Sure he was left defensively exposed, but he also showed very poor timing in coming off his line (or not) and seemed to make a couple of quite mediocre shots look absolutely unstoppable. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there must be a decent keeper in there. But on the evidence I've seen, Walton is first choice, and the competition isn't even close.

Me too mate. I don't understand the need to constantly criticise one of the best young goalkeepers in this division and the best young goalkeeper at Barnsley since Dave Watson.

I thought he was weak for the goal. He pulled off some regulation saves at the near post that would have been criticised if they had gone in, as should have done better. Came and punched successfully once that I remember. Not sure about his distribution at this minute at times looks a little wayward. Has the ability to pull out a worldly save also. Has to concentrate 100% of the time as playing sweeper keeper for the long ball over the top which is clearly a vulnerability of our backline. Had very little protection at that corner seemed to be crowded out by their larger players blocking him and he needed to be stronger or be given more support from our players. But he is young and will only get better hopefully overtime. Would be nice to get back to keeping clean sheets again. Shut outs against the next three league opponents would close the mouths of many.

Keepers reach their peak later than outfield players, everyone knows that. Jack is a long way from his peak, and he's learning on the job at an extremely challenging level. He's entitled to make mistakes, even complete ****-ups, at this stage of his career. Give the lad some credit - he's coming along very nicely.

I do think we should reward him for his performances so far by buying him a long sleeved jumper for the cold weather!

No Collins being chipped from 40 yards last season at home when he came rushing out of his goal

Any claims for Collins to get the shirt surely went out of the window at Chelsea. He had a shocker, just kept putting us in danger.

More than likely was loko. I’ve explained it wrongly But I believe the back line system was more geared to a back 4 than 3/2 I Don’t remember playing 3 central defenders. Like we do now . Which leaves Walton more open.
Also a reason (back 4) Diaby was criticised because of having to cover Cavare’s lazy run backs.

Some short memories on here, if it was not for Jacks heroics after lockdown we would not even be in the Championship, he is an excellent young keeper who will only get better and if he makes the odd mistake then cut him some slack, its called learning his trade
