At the start of the season (in the Championship) most of us "fear the worst but hope for the best". Our most earnest wish is survival finishing around 19th or 20th and above Wednesday. That seemed the case up until Struber's departure to NY. If the season had started when VI arrived we would be in an automatic promotion place ie. second. That we are currently in eighth I suspect most supporter's expectations are to settle for nothing less than the 'play offs'. If we don't achieve a top six spot who at BFC will get the most criticism from the fans for nit realising their expectations ? Players ? Manager ? the Board ?
I very much view what has happened since VI’s arrival as a great big bonus and providing we steer well clear of the relegation zone there’ll be no complaints from me
We've been on a good run. We'll likely go on a bad one at some point. It'll still be a very, very successful season if we stay comfortably above the bottom 3.
Avoid relegation, I love championship football (particularly when we win). So avoid relegation and signs that there is a plan that will see us stay up in the seasons to come and I’ll be happy.
I suspect you are way out with you suspecting that ‘Most supporter’s expectations are to settle for nothing less than the play- offs’ Most fans will be absolutely delighted with things so far. A comfortable Mid-table finish will do nicely for most.
I dont think anyone in their right mind expects us to get in the play offs. Dafter things have happened but it's just not a realistic prospect. Top half if we can, manage the ins and outs properly and just maybe have a go next season.
Build the squad with more good young players in January and the summer and push on next season. Critical factors are that we are able to retain the core starting eleven and squad members; keep Ismael until at least the end of the following season; acquire, or develop players who improve the quality of the squad.
I don’t EXPECT us to finish top six, or even top ten for that matter, but the way things are at the moment I can’t see any reason not to hope for an exciting second half of the season. Looking at the table you would say top four are about right but below that it’s any two from the rest, possibly down to Blackburn. We’ve beaten Watford already but their assets should see them stay up there. Reading are no better than us, what I have seen, and neither are Stoke so why can’t we finish above them? As we all know January is the big unknown factor coming up so we will be none the wiser until that month is over. I’m not EXPECTING anything but am certainly enjoying this season. Remember the words of Michael Palin....nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition!!
I don't think the manager has set any targets but he has developed a winning mentality in his time at the club . Young players with a desire to improve all things are possible.
My post was a little 'tongue in cheek', with the intention of provoking the predictable responses, bearing in mind the cynicism of many fans.
My expectation (assuming no exodus in January) is to have a bad run of games and finish the season mid-table. Anything better than that would be a bonus.
Top half would be Macknificent as Ronnie Moore would say. anything outside bottom 3 is an achievement no one expects the play offs at all so a bit daft to suggest they do.
Maybe not then again who expected Leicester to win the Premiership- us being promoted in 97? I'll be happy with mid table to be honest
