It always amazes me that Walton(who kept us in the game) is criticise yet there’s no mention of Thomas and his awful miss?
be fair keep their lass out of it first time hit, Krul on top of him, unlucky for me, all about opinions
His best game today. Sorry he conceded. We need two forwards in this window because the inability to find a meaningful pass or hold it up from the LF and RF is sucking Styles and Brittain forward all the time. Then we have nothing left in behind. Centre backs are shuffling and arses twitching. I'm impressed with Valerie but he's showing the same stubborness Wilson showed during the Premiership season.
It is harsh, but he did start to come out, then stopped. I thought he was going to jump at his feet, similar to what he did to pukki earlier. Him and Brittain seemed a bit out of sync, because he didn’t know whether to track the run or defend the line again, and did neither. Small margins, but that’s what gave the premier league quality player the space he needed. That said, Walton has saved us plenty of times and the missed chances at the other end were worse than any mistakes the defence may have made
any team who exploit his weakness at corners and get lucky, will get 2 or 3, he only young though and best we got
no one as made him a scapegoat, he played well, just thought he should have been 2 yard closer to scorer
Walton has the potential to be a top quality goalkeeper. He has the basic attributes. He's big, brave, decent in the air with crosses and a very good shotstopper. The one quality in need of improvement is decision making. Saying that it applies to most young keepers and it will progressively improve with game time. In another couple of seasons I reckon he will be top notch.
I’m not making him a scapegoat, but it looked to me a slight misunderstanding between him and Brittain game gave the space needed to score the goal. I’d question Brittain just as much, if not more as he should’ve tracked the run better. Before that, Walton kept us in it and while I’d leave him out next week, thats just to give him a well earned rest for a cup game.
ball was in air 4 secs he had time to get there, but that's just football, got lucky with spill in first half that hit his foot and bounced back into his arms with Pukki stood there, hardest position on pitch the keeper
But we are Barnsley FC, average is what we have always been. Bottom half of League One is our below average and top half of The Championship is our above average. Jack Walton has been the man in the sticks while we’ve climbed to top half Championship so, for me, he is better than your ‘bang average’ and if he had all the attributes, that many say he is missing, he would be in goal for Bayern Munich. Regards Jack Walton’s Dad. (I’m not really his Dad, not like that Observer bloke who used to post)
Agree my son is 8yrs old and first choice goalie for his team and it it’s horrible that he can make loads of saves etc but the one he doesn’t quite get right you can here other parents grumbling etc. They always seem to over look strikers missing chances or the defence not doing it’s job properly.
The best c I find keepers get cut quite a bit of slack when I've been to my son's football matches. Quite a lot of encouragement.
Spot on. Every outfield player will make a mistake during a game. A misplaced pass, a shot off target etc. But the goalkeeper’s mistakes are always under the spotlight. Jack Walton is an excellent shot stopper, amazing in 1v1 situations, but isn’t quite the polished article. And when he is, he’ll move onto bigger and better than Barnsley and we will replace him with someone who also has a mistake in him while he learns his trade....or Mike Pollitt!!!
