The fact is after 2 days of the window being opened and despite the new centre half coming in the squad is now weaker, the board have the rest of the month to put that right simply because if the board have any ambition at all they should always seek the have a stronger squad at the end of a transfer window than they had at the start of it. They managed that with the signing of James at the end of the last window they need to do it again.
They do... Its just worrying that James was a great quality signing and I'm worried this window we won't sign the same type of player ie quality and experience.. I really hope I'm proved wrong
The key point you make there is that it’s two days. We don’t play a league fixture for another ten days. We’ve also got a new Head Coach. I’m tempted to question not re-signing James, but also trust him that he probably doesn’t think the squad is weaker longer term and believes it will better aid the development of our own players or allow budget to be better used elsewhere.
It’s probably about now that our new head coach probably finds out what he would like and what he will get are slightly different things.
With a significant revenue shortfall from playing behind closed doors, success maybe having a lower wage bill and some proceeds from transfer dealings. Maybe better to judge at the end of the window rather than day 2?
**** me straight in on the board. Wonder how long it will take for you to fill the owner bashing bingo this transfer window.
Agreed, early days yet..... But wev just shelled out half a million on someone who hasn't played above league 2 level in a position that isn't priority, so I would imagine there is definitely funds to spend to strengthen the positions we need. You would hope so anyway.
Problem is that we have seen our team ripped apart so many times in recent years. I fear that this is now the fans' expressing disappointment and disillusion in advance. We have the same period of time to be surprised though.
Isn’t this exactly the kind of signing we should be applauding? Soll won’t stick around forever and one of Madds or Helik (will be the former) have got to have clubs sniffing around. We’ve already signed the replacement, so if the time comes this Summer to sell he’s had six months to bed in. Aren’t we ‘layering’? Add to that Kitching is English with first team experience from a club we know well. Things some fans have been crying out for.
James was never going to stay long term so why not just let Herbie and romal learn the trade .....we all didn't expect to be where we are in the leauge now did we .
I never rated James and i'm happy for Christie Davies, Styles and Kane. We move on. A centre forward who is dyamic, quick and can run the channels and left back. I'll be happy. I mentioned Whiteman on another thread but we're stockpiling players. Get rid of Miller, Schmidt and Thomas. If we sign Morris we'll have Woodrow, Chaplin, Adeboyejo and Morris. Midfield I think we're sound a lot depends on Mowatt but if he stays we don't need Whiteman. Defence picks itself. Just need a left back. Really isn't dire straits for me.
Maybe he did. But not at the price being quoted. I mentioned elsewhere but I think the second loan deal would have been more expensive Han the first.
Where did I have a go at the board? I simply pointed out that the squad was weaker without James in it and said that if the board had ambition they would ñeed to fix that. I said they strengthened the squad by signing James at the end of the last window and should seek to do likewise by the end of this window to show ambition.
We don't have a league game for a week and a half. We have lost a loanee on good money that never plays a full game. We might lose this month a guy who if we wait until the end of the season we lose for nothing. Losing Mowatt on top of James wouldn't be like selling Woodrow and Styles this month.
